Breslincasting_l Abigail Breslin will star opposite Cameron Diaz and Alec Baldwin in New Line Cinema’s upcoming drama, My Sister’s Keeper. Elle Fanning had been in negotiations to play the part, with her sister, Dakota, in talks to play her older sister, but the Fannings’ deal fell apart and Breslin landed the role.

Nick Cassavetes (Alpha Dog) is attached to direct the film adaptation of the heartbreaking novel by Jodi Picoult. Breslin will play Anna, a 13-year-old girl who was conceived as a genetic match for her cancer-ridden sister (Medium‘s Sofia Vassilieva is in talks to play the sister) and is seeking emancipation from her parents. Diaz plays Anna’s mother and a former defense attorney who returns to court to defend herself and her husband (the role of Diaz’s husband has yet to be cast). Baldwin will play Anna’s lawyer.

Jeremy Leven, who previously partnered with Cassevetes and producer Mark Johnson on New Line’s The Notebook, penned the script. Shooting begins March 3 in Los Angeles.
