Paramount counting on Shyamalan for Fourth of July 2010

Night_l_2Paramount Pictures has greenlit M. Night Shyamalan’s The Last Airbender for a July 4, 2010, release. Shyamalan will begin production on the live-action epic adventure, based on Nickelodeon’s animated TV series, this August. “I love martial arts and the Japanese culture,”  Shyamalan tells EW. “This particular piece has an intensely spiritual Buddhist substory that I really dug." Airbender is about a world in which civilization is divided into four feuding nations: Water, Earth, Air, and Fire. The film’s reluctant hero, Aang, a.k.a. the Last Airbender, undertakes a perilous journey to bring those nations together.

The studio is counting on the writer/director to bring an action-filled family adventure to the big screen, one that has the epic nature of Lord of the Rings and the action and spectacle of Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon. Airbender marks the first project Shyamalan will direct that is based on someone else’s material.

All I know is that as long as I’ve been waiting for season 3 to resume, it and the movie better be worth it! I have confidence in M Night because he and his kids like the show but he has the chance to make something very special.

OK, why does this article not ever mention the actual name of the show, which is AVATAR? Is it because James Cameron’s making some mega-epic film that’s also called Avatar? Seems to me Nickelodeon beat Cameron to the punch, and they oughta be calling the film by it’s actual name: Avatar-The Last Airbender.
The Avatar cartoon has been a wonderful show enjoyed by kids and adults alike. Other than Lost, it’s the only show I go out of my way to watch. What a shame that the cartoon is ending after just three seasons. I’d much rather see the show continue, then let that self-absorbed hack “Shyama-lama-ding-dong” get his hands on it.
Well, at least he never got to butcher a Harry Potter film adaptation.

Rudy, it’s ridiculous how long Nickelodeon’s been waiting to air the remainder of Avatar’s season 3… Apparently the second half of the season has been airing in Canada for awhile now. Even though the first half of the season has been very disappointing, I still want the show back!
Then again, savor Avatar while you still can. Season 3 is, sadly, the final season of the show. Considering how successful the show has been, I thought they’d keep it going awhile (at least a 4th season, one for each of the four nations). Apparently the decision was made to end the show so Shyama-lama-ding-dong can make his movie version. I just hope it isn’t as bad as his other films have been.

What is with this Sherry person, and her stupid ads for dating sites? Can’t some one delete these?
Then again, reading that he’s supposedly interested in young guys gave me a laugh…

I’m hesitant on this one. I love the M Sham, but I really hope he has a better understanding of the premise of the show than whoever wrote this article. Cautiously Optimistic.

Shaun, they can’t use “Avatar.” There was a dispute between them and James Cameron, who is also making a movie called “Avatar,” and the result of that was that “Avatar” gets dropped from the title of the Airbender movie.
