Quentin Tarantino‘s uberviolent WWII project Inglorious Bastards has finally found its star — and its home. Reps for Brad Pitt confirm that the prolific father is in negotiations to play Lieut. Aldo Raine. (A source says rumors that Tarantino is also courting Leonardo DiCaprio for the role of Col. Hans Landa are false.) After three weeks of very public negotiations — and after everyone with a Hollywood zip code has seemingly seen a copy of the script — sources say the movie will land at Universal Pictures. Dealmaking has been handed off to the studio’s lawyers, and while nothing is set in stone, it appears that the studio will partner with Tarantino and producer/domestic distributor Harvey Weinstein to cofinance the film and handle international distribution.

Inglorious Basters will save the careers of Tarantino, Pitt and Weinstein.
This is Tarantino’s first “period” film. What I’m curious to see is whether he’ll somehow work in a reference or connection to one of his earlier films, as he has invariably done in the past. It’s usually been an actor playing the same part in different films (Michael Bronson in “Death Proof” and “Kill Bill”; or a connection like the Vega Brothers (Michael Madsen in “Reservoir Dogs” and John Travolta in “Pulp Fiction”). Maybe we’ll see the Vega boys’ father in WWII?
“Inglorious Bastards” will save Brad Pitt’s career? Paulie, I wasn’t aware that his career was in need of salvation, though I suspect that “Benjamin Button” film he’s got coming out this year will be more of a boost to his career than QT’s war picture.

the movie will be good. i hope it will be an original work, and not another stylish assembly of bits and pieces of old classsics cobbled together and fused through the eyes of qt. enough homage – time for complete originality (it wont be tho, cos the film’s based on an old italian flick) ps: tarantino’s career does not need saving, and neither does pitt’s or weinstein’s.

Oh, and btw: Props to Pitt for always trying something different and hard edged. Seven,Fight Club,Snatch,Kalifornia,Troy…at least he’s not constantly doing these softy chick-flick comedies for women every five seconds like McConahey and Gerard Butler…
Kids — I’m one of those with a Hollywood zip code that has read this script. Trust me when I tell you, it’s the best thing QT’s written since “Pulp Fiction”. He’s finally over writing love letters to the exploitation films that made him the unique story-teller he is and even though this is period, it IS a Tarantino movie. Violent as hell, funny, it plays with time structure… and even though it’s set during WWII, it’s not about the war. It’s a character-driven revenge tale whose players happen to be living their lives as varied pieces on the war’s chessboard. You will love it… ESPECIALLY if Pitt signs on. He will be kick-ass as Raine. And if they get another ringer for Hans Landa, this will be the biggest money maker of QT’s career. Okay, I’ve said enough!
I have a question; do those careers really need “saving”?
I read the script. It’s full of flaws, and the main problem is the dialogue. No kidding. It’s on the nose dialogue, “you’re going to give me nazi scalps”. And they give him nazi scalps. It’s talk talk talk. And not funny talk either. The man has lost it. He used to write dialogue full of subtext, this is boring. The caracter Shosanna turns from a fragile women, shy in a way to some gangster from an early tarantino movie, in one second. It’s out of character. Suddenly she starts threatening people with the worst clichés from Hollywood in her mouth: if you don’t do this or that I’m going to rip off your head and – type of dialogue.
The script wasn’t funny at all.
He needs an editor. He needs someone who’s not impressed so easily by the mere fact that he is the man behind Pulp Fiction.
I seriously doubt this movie will suck. It may not be one of his great movies, but even QT’s mediocre stuff is above par. Just and see. Scripts do go through revisions–even on the set somtimes.
I’m really excited about this film. And if anyone can bring out Brad’s best acting chops, it’s QT.

Pitt should work with Tarantino. He was great in True Romance (Tarantino’s screenplay).
True Romance was with Christian Slater not Brad Pitt. Know what your talking about before you write.
