man someone puts out a comedy. you people need to see it in context and stop acting like a bunch of retards

Hey, let’s all rag on this movie we haven’t seen, just because some talking head with an agenda to push tells us it’s bad. This is the equivalent to religious protesters against Dogma, but this time I don’t think Ben Stiller is going to show up carrying a sign.

Where the Hell where these people when films like “Special Dead” and “RetarDEAD came out? Not to mention Troma’s “Citizen Toxie”. With all the other issues going on in the world is it really that valiant to protest Ben Stiller in fake buck teeth? Get a life.

I remember when parents used to teach their kinds that sticks and stones may break your bones but names can never harm you. Now, parents apparently just teach their kids having thin-skin is a virtue. What a pathetic nation we’ve become. Seriously, these protestors need to grow up.

Too many comedies out there feature humans who are stupid. How dare they offend humans by implying that they are capable of stupidity.
Too many movies out there use the word ahole. We aholes prefer the term “congeniality impaired.” How dare they use such an offensive word. No one should say anything offensive to anyone ever. And since the hearing impaired and the speaking impaired might be offended, no one should say anything, ever. Apologies to the vision impaired as well, perhaps we shouldn’t post written words either. We should all just sit in a dark room with the lights off and never move, and stop breathing so we don’t offend people with lung conditions. The retards complaining about this move should be the first to try it, and I’m NOT talking about people with legitimate handicaps.
If you’re complaining about WORDS like “retarded”… guess what that makes you?

    ok.
this is as bad as the group who wanted to change Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers because of the two towers that fell during 9/11.

appears to be a bunch of retarded folks making retards out of themselves
apparently they don’t get parody & satire

I serve the developmentally disabled population. First, if the transcript or movie has not been seen, then that is the first step. Second, words do add up to attitude and many are young and can not remember that many with developmental disabilities were kept at State Hospitals like a jail.
Now most successfully are housed and live in the community. There are still fights when a careprovider home is proposed as protesters say they do not want “those people” in the neighborhood. It is a civil rights issue to be treated with respect. I hope the movie is as stated by the stars in it – but even in jest when would a star in a movie use ethnic jokes or slurs of a questionable nature. Lastly like the womens’ movement – these rights are taking a long time to make a reality.
Thanks to all for your time and consideration.

R word is juss as bad as the N word!
Even worse is when you are N & R!
Nuch worser than that ifs you was also the F word too!

  • Todd Reynard

Haha where are the people protesting RDJ’s blackface?
Besides, the word in question gets tossed around so often, how can one be so sure they are talking about a distinct group of people unless they were lunged and ready to pounce on anyone who says it. NOTE: “retard” is late in french, so are people going to flag the french.

Retard is french for “Slow” so people lighten up and enjoy the movie for what it is.. brain candy.

If there wasn’t anymore reason to spite political correctness…
Emma, you remind me of a poster who got upset at the Terminator Salvation producer, saying the future world wasn’t for pa@nsies, since p@nsy is a deroggatory synonym for a gay person. The problem is, the poster completely misinterpreted the context behind his message (which is actually ‘wusses’), since he illustrated the bleak scenario for the film.
Yes, the word retard can be used in a deroggatory way, but pay attention more towards the context. Most people often use the word to call someone stupid, and NOT to the real mentally challenged. Like the aforementioned TS producer, I doubt Ben Stiller and comp. have a vendetta against them.
Ridiculing everyone’s use of a certain word is the kind of attitude that leads to book burnings. I suppose we should fry every 17th century narrative with the word f@ggot in it (which is also called a group of twigs), just because of its negative connotation these days.

I think many defenders of this film are missing the point. It doesn’t really have anything to do with being politically correct or free speech. In this particular case it’s about context-that it’s supposedly inherently funny to belittle a person by calling them a retard. If Stiller wasn’t portrayed as a disabled person,it wouldn’t be such a talking point, but he is.And I would love to think the majority of the audience will pick up on the subtle Hollywood satire aspect in relation to this, but I doubt they will.

  • Lauri

Let me get this straight, Robert Downey Jr. is blackface and these people are upset because the word “retard” is used in the movie? Are you kidding me?
