'Private Practice' stars elected to SAG board

While the country’s presidential candidates have been arguing over lipstick and pigs in recent weeks, another polity’s election has been heating up Hollywood. Two factions within the Screen Actors Guild, Unite for Strength and Membership First, have been duking it out in hopes of taking control and steering the union’s 12-week-long stalemate with the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers to a deal. On Sept. 18, the newly-formed, and more moderate, Unite for Strength prevailed, with Amy Brenneman (Private Practice), Adam Arkin (Life), and Kate Walsh (Private Practice, pictured) elected to the board, which could (depending on how other regional members vote) put Membership First in the minority for the first time in three years.

What will this mean for the union’s contract negotiations? A press release cicrulated on Wednesday stated that 87 percent of SAG members who responded to a recent poll would prefer to hold out for a better contract than the one AFTRA signed rather than accept the AMPTP’s present terms. But out of the 103,630 SAG members who were polled via a postcard mailing, only 10,298 responded. The low turnout and change-up in the board could mean the pressure is building for SAG to come to an agreement with the AMPTP sooner rather than later — or at the very least, get back to the table for serious talks.

Can you please report news unbiased ?
Or did you also totally forget that the turn out for voting on contracts isn’t that big either. Remember how many writers voted on the WGA contract ? I do, half of the members did and that was for a real vote. This was a poll, 15% return rate for a simple poll is amazing numbers.
If only you guys working for the media were a little more unbiased. The weird thing is you make your bread with the writers, the actors, the directors. And still, you give out bias info that support the AMPTP.
I would suggest reading Deadline Hollywood, at least Nikki, depsite all her faults, gives out pretty much unbiased info on this subject. Certainly she does more analysis than you do.
As for U4S being more moderate, I do not think a faction promoting qualified voting is moderate. And i don’t think that a faction who promotes the merger of two guilds who have tried to merge for the past 20 years has any inkling on the reality of things either.

The problem is, that the “real vote” in SAG case didn’t differ much from the poll. Not much more people voted in the recent SAG elections than in this poll.
As for U4S promoting qualified voting it’s not true. They made a public statement that it’s not their agenda. And it never was. They were promoting affected members voting, which is totally different thing than qualified voting. Learn a differences before you start making accusations.
