I feel like I’ve lost a favorite uncle – the one who could always be counted on to say something witty and outrageous in the middle of a dull family gathering.
Paul Newman was a rare breed – an impossibly handsome guy who could really act. And he got even better as he got older; his performances in “The Verdict” and “Nobody’s Fool” were understated masterpieces. But the Newman role I’ll always love best is Butch Cassidy – sly, sexy, a little bit goofy, humane. A lot like he seemed to be in real life, in fact.
My sympathies to his children, and especially to Joanne Woodward. As someone who was lucky enough to find her own charming, witty, blue-eyed soulmate, I know I’d be devastated if he died; I can only imagine the overwhelming sense of loss Ms. Woodward must be feeling.

Paul Newman was the classiest Hollywood icon of all time. More need to follow his lead not just from an acting perspective, but also from a family, father/husband, philanthropic and principled perspective. Paul Newman was the whole package. There is certainly a void no one can fill in his place.

The world has lost a great human being. I know he was a great actor, but he was everything that people should strive to be in life, wonderful husband, loving father, and a tremendous person. The world is a little less bright today because of his passing. May God bless his family and bring them comfort during this time, he will be missed by many
Rest in peach Paul, you have earned it.

I got early on that he was different. If quality can be an aura, it blazed from Newman. He, to put it mildly, was a true and real man. New England archetype? I don’t think so. Giant, immortal…..star. How lucky heaven is. Ok to print.

Paul Newman was classy and timeless. Not self promoting and sensationalist – he is the type of man that women love and men want to be – you don’t find that as much today in our watered-down versions of hollywood.

Paul Newman will always be one of my all-time favorite actors. As a teenager, I was blown away by his performance as Fast Eddie Felson in “The Hustler” and “The Color of Money.” Having seen more of his work since then, I feel he really reached a rarified level of coolness – he may very well have been the Miles Davis of acting. And beyond acting, his combination of entrepreneurship and generosity remains unparalleled with “Newman’s Own.” Paul Newman truly demonstrated onscreen and off how a real man should be. “OK FOR PRINT”

I met Mr. Newman in Chicago while I was working at an FBO, which is where the private planes go in the airports. I have to say I met many stars when I worked there and he was by far the most down to earth peron I ever met. You would have never known he was a movie star. My thoughts and prayers are with his family. Mr Newmans death is such a great loss. I will always rememeber my meeting with him .

I first fell in love with Paul when I saw him in “Exodus.” Since then I have watched many more of his classic movies from “Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid” to “From the Terrace” to my favorite, “The Sting.” So many great movies and amazing acting. What I really came to appreciate, however, were his philanthropic efforts. He was truly a great man and a class act, a rare breed to be found in Hollywood or anywhere else for that matter. He will be sorely missed. Rest in Peace Paul. *OK to print

There’s an old saying that by age 70, “you have the face you deserve.” Paul Newman was preternaturally gorgeous as a young man — but the handsomeness and elegance he carried to the very end of his life are a testament to his talent, his humility despite great fame, his self-deprecating humor, his enduring marriage to a woman his equal in talent, intelligence and age, and the immense charity he showed to children in need. He was one of the very few people whose outer attractiveness was truly matched by inner beauty. My condolences to Joanne Woodward and to his children. OK TO PRINT.

To call him one of the greatest actors is to sell short one of the most important and influential entertainers of our time. With blue eyes that looked as if he had swallowed the sea, he delved into a variety of film roles that not only made us think but also made us rethink acting. From The Hustler, to Hud, The Verdict to Butch Cassidy, everything he did seemed effortless. His characters were real men, full of love and purpose. The longevity of his marriage to Joanne Woodward is something to be admired, and his humanitarian work is something never to be rivaled. Always a classic, always to remembered. We will miss you Paul Newman, and God’s speed and grace to your family.
