Though she’s the proud owner of an Academy Award, Angelina Jolie actually hasn’t been nominated since winning Best Supporting Actress for Girl, Interrupted in 2000. But her forceful performance in this month’s Clint Eastwood drama Changeling could change that. It’s been over four months since I saw the film in Cannes, but watching this exclusive clip given to EW.com by the folks at Universal reminds me of what a fine job she does. This is one of the best scenes in the film, and Jolie is helped along by one of our best character actors, Tony winner Denis O’Hare (he was genius in Michael Clayton), as a menacing doctor at a mental ward where she’s been wrongly placed. Take a look and let me know if you think this is Angelina’s Oscar scene.

Wow, what a tremendous example of the vital importance of lighting (or lack of it). In this clip it almost becomes a 3 character in the scene. A frightening and chilly character at that. It’s masterful.
As for Angelina, I think she is one of those performers who off screen overexposure tends to turn off many potential viewers, myself included. Especially in her serious roles. But I wish her well. This scene was amazing.
I can’t wait to see Changeling. I hope Jolie will get nominated for an Oscar. She was wonderful in her subtle performance as Mariane Pearl in A Mighty Heart. She is so underrated because she is overexposed in the tabloids.
I agree. she is underrated because of the crazy amount of hate so many people have for her. It’s one reason why I can’t stand brad pitt these days. he gets so much love for the exact reasons Angelina gets so much hate. Plus he wouldn’t be half the humanitarian he is without HER.
I think she made a big mistake when she started her relationship with him.

I totally agree. The tabloid media has a double standard with women like Jolie and Sienna Miller. The women are trashed while the men get a free pass.
Wow. Is all there is to it.
I had myself locked on Hathaway, but wow. Just Genius
I am more impressed with the lighting and direction than as I am with Angelina’s acting in this scene. This pales in comparison to some of the other performances that are currently being considered as “oscar-possible.” Kristen Scott Thomas in “I’ve Loved You For So Long” is certainly better than Angelina.

So based on ONE scene you think she is better? How ignorant are you?
Haunting. Absolutely riveting. Very subtle too. Angelina Jolie is a tremendous actress–one of the best of this generation. It really is a shame that she is ALWAYS in the media. But I truly feel, judging by this scene, she will receive another Oscar nomination.
As for the lighting…absolutely beautiful. It’s why I love Clint Eastwood films–it’s similar of Mystic River, Flags of Our Fathers and Million Dollar Baby. This scene actually reminds of of the scene in MDB where Frankie finally agrees to coach Maggie. Such a powerful scene.
Can’t wait to see this!
I’m going to reserve my judgement until I see the film in its entirety. The clip has certainly piqued my interest. Angelina’s performance certainly seems sound and, dare-I-say, subtle. She is a very good actress. If only she were to stick to that, she would be getting more statues.
Honestly, I think Clint Eastwood and Denis O’Hare are the two shining stars in this clip. Eastwood’s eye for directing always startles me. The lighting is breath-taking. And O’Hare has such a great presence on screen. I had no trouble believing his character.

This is O’Hare and Jolie’s second film together. In A Mighty Heart, O’Hare’s character was helping Mariane Pearl. Now in Changelng O’Hare’s character is against Christine Collins. How ironic.
WOW! Angelina Jolie did a great job in this film. Her acting was mesmerizing. She will be nominated ad eventually win the BEST ACTRESS!!

Did you see the film at NYFF?? How was the reception with the audience? Also what did you think of the film?
Great, very short yet its very unforgettable. I’m sure the movie is very good and Angelina will once again be nominated and probably own her 2nd golden trophy. Congrats in advance.
It is ignorant and wrong for people to even bring up her false tabloid persona yet alone believe in it.
I don’t want to provoke a fight about that but Angelina Jolie should not be put in the same category with women like Sienna Miller. Sienna truly committed the sin and Angelina caught trapped in a outrageous misportrayal because of the misconceptions a piece of gossip caused because of how it coincided with reality to make her look guilty when she was not responsible for that at all. Anyway, Brad has suffered just as much, if not more, from that malicious misportrayal. He lost so many fans, friends, and even family members because of that false accusation and the brainwashing filled with unfounded hate and terrible deceit it created. He is a moral man and has always been a good person.Only a minority understand the truth. As for Billy Bob, he lied to her and told her that he and Laura had split up. Most of you don’t really understand the real Brad and Angelina at all.
It is a shame how that misportrayal and sleazy spin is negatively affecting their careers. If people understood what great people they were and how they got victimized, the masses would be rooting for their success, not failure. I saw the film, she was amazing in it. It was a powerhouse and heartwrenching performance. However, I know many of you will just refuse to be impressed with it because of your baseless contempt for her. It drives me insane
knowing what the truth is and how many people got corrupted and are deluded by that fabricated soap opera in which a lousy person got glorified and a reformed woman got destroyed. At least have the integrity to separate your professional opinion from your personal opinion because I know trying to make people understand the truth about who they really are is a lost cause. You are hating the wrong people.
