Ralph Fiennes: Heath Ledger's competition?

The Best Supporting Actor category is usually one of the most crowded of the Oscar season, with a half-dozen worthy competitors typically getting the shaft once the nominations are announced (Dennis Quaid in Far From Heaven and J.K. Simmons in Juno come to mind). But this year (and yes, it’s early) there don’t seem to be too many guys in the mix to compete with the category’s one sure nominee, Heath Ledger. All of which may help someone like Ralph Fiennes, who earned terrific reviews for The Duchess but hasn’t emerged as a slam dunk just yet. Just like Ledger, he’s an excellent bad guy and provides perhaps the most memorable performance in his film. With The Duchess now coming out more widely after a few weeks in limited release, here’s Part 2 of my OscarWatch interview with Fiennes.

Watch Part 1 of the interview here.

Ralph Feinnes should grow his hair out…he looks like a chimp. I know that’s superficial, but it’s all I can think of when I look at him!
I definitely support Ledger being nominated.

I think anyone who’s seen “The Dark Knight” knows that Heath Ledger’s performance is lead and NOT supporting, screen time be damned! I compare his impact in that movie to Anthony Hopkins’ work in “Silence of the Lambs”, and we all know he won the lead performance statuette.
Then again, I totally understand that Ledger’s being pushed for Supporting Actor because it gives him a better chance of picking up a nom (and a win) than if he were in the usually ultra-competitive Lead Actor race. Since Ledger’s performance deserves to be recognized by the Academy (whether it’s lead or supporting), I guess I’m ok with this.
Finally, am I the only one who know feels that Ralph Fiennes looks weird with a nose?

I just saw The Duchess and Ralph was great-you loved to hate him.

Egads. Ralph Fiennes used to be achingly beautiful, now look at him. He looks like he’s beeing doing meth under a railroad bridge for the past ten years. His teeth look like corn candy just in time for Halloween. Surely he could find the time to spruce himself up a little. Yeesh.

“Heath Ledger! Heath Ledger for an Oscars!” That is all I hear these days. An Oscar for his performance in the long and tedious Batman movie? NEVER!!Better actors are to be found on TV ads! I saw the movie and was bored stiff!Would there be this much buzz if he had not died? I doubt it. As an actor he was much better in The Patriot, and when people are talking Oscars let’s not forget Heath’s legacy of acting on film…The Brothers Grimm and The Four Feathers anyone?????

Why or Why – the reviews have been fabulous for BOL. I think mr crowe and decaprio were fabulous in it..
so many people are telling us go see it – it is really good…and ends like it will be BOL part 2.

I am most confident that Heath Ledger will win Best Supporting Actor…and if he doesnt that’s a major shame because he deserves/deserved it.
