heath ledger was brilliant ineffective tdk and he deserves to win.
in my case, I believe that all actors deserve an oscar before they die…this is his last one

heath ledger deserves a best actor award without a doubt. only a performance as breathtaking as his in The Dark Knight can move so many people. it makes no difference that he died; he’d have been honored even if he was still alive today.

Heath Ledger should not be in the Best Actor category because he was not the lead in the film. After he died, yes, he became the main attraction to go see the movie but let’s face it, if he were alive, would people be clamoring for him to be nominated for Best Actor or even nominated for anything at all? I seriously doubt. The Dark Knight was pretty much an ensemble, there was no real lead but by default it would be Christian Bale because this is after all a Batman movie and Batman is the catalyst for the entire movie and all the other characters revolve around him. I think Heath Ledger deserves a Best Supporting Actor but simply because this Oscar race will be slim pickings. It’s hard to divorce the performance from the real life tragedy of what happened. Still, it was a great performance.

I’m 100% sure he’ll get the nomination too. It’s the most talked about performance of the year. But his chances at winning depend on a few things, particularly his competition.
Personally, I’d love to see Gary Oldman get a nomination, too. I LOVED how much more was given to work with in this sequel.
The Dark Knight Oscar Nom wishlist:
    Best sup Actor- Heath Ledger
    Best sup Actor- Gary Oldman
    Best Cinematography- Wally Pfister
    Best Original Score- Hans Zimmer
    Best Director- Chris Nolan
Best Picture- Chris Nolan, Emma Thomas, Benjamin Melniker

However it sounds, perhaps the most tragic public aspect of Mr. Ledger’s demise is that one of the top five portrayals in movie history is undercut by tragedy. Ledger’s performance is truly breathtaking, leaving anyone with the slightest grasp of the art of performance in complete awe of the ultimate embodiment of total transposition, one man’s miraculous ultimate becoming. Never has a character been more surreally real to his audience, even hiding what would have otherwise been regarded as a certifiable misfire sequel by sheer brilliance alone. The saddest fact is that this shining light was permanently obscured by it’s own passing. Once the juxtaposition of the two occurrences fades into distant memory, and only then, will the full power of Ledger’s performance be completely appreciated.

I have no doubt that Heath Ledger’s Joker will win Best Supporting Actor. What he produced was pure transcendence. What Ledger did was truly incredible.

I believe his role as a joker was incridable amazing! I must say that I’ve seen the movie 4 times and after each one I completely became numb in some parts of his role! although academy doesn;t seem to consider super hero movie’s actors as an nominees but I doubt that performance of Jack nichlson with all respect to his tallent was better than Heath Ledger’s!
He deserves an oscar this time!
