Padalecki and Duhamel are too lanky for Rogers.
Actually I think Jensen Ackles would be a better fit but still not quite right.
Damon, Pitt – too old.
Dwayne Johnson – too big.
I don’t know. They’ve got a tough casting ahead of them. Probably an unknown would be best
I just can’t see Dean from Gilmore Girls as Captain America.
Aaron Eckhart would make a great Cap if he were only a couple of inches taller.
If he bulked up, Nathan Fillon would be a good Cap.
(Firefly, Slither) He’d have to be a little less snarky, but he could totally pull it off. And no, Cap. America was not the first Avenger. He wasn’t even in the Avengers debut.
NEAL MCDONOUGH for Captain America!!!
My vote’s for Mark Valley or Aaron Eckhart. I think they have the right facial features and persona.
The first Avengers are Thor, Iron Man, Ant Man and the Wasp.
An unknown actor should strongly be considered for Cap: there are too many disqualifying characteristics from the “A-List” to go with an established actor.
Casting a fresh face certainly worked for Christopher Reeve as Superman.
Cap should be (after his heroic transformation via the Super-Soldier Serum) 6’2″, 225-240 lbs, blond-n-blue.
Raised by his mother in the Depression-era Bronx, with a thirst to fight the Nazis.
I could go with either the classic Cap costume (although the helmet wings and buccaneer boots seem a little silly), or the slightly revised look of the Ultimates version of Captain America (no wings on the mask, lace-up combat boots, military web belt).
I strongly recommend reading Marvels’ series, The Ultimates for their updated take on Captain America.
Hope they don’t blow it… Cap has been a hard one to do on screen (big or little). I’m looking forward to the “Avengers” movie and I hope this doesn’t mess things up….
I have been checking various sites for casting news on the Captain America movie. The problems in casting the role are inherent and go far beyond height, build and eye/hair color requirements.Captan America is more than just the sum of his physicality. He is the personification of a national ideal. The consumate leader. The ultimate soldier. It’s a sad commentary on modern Hollywood that all it can offer as casting choices are blow-dried male model types without much real substance. The Cap intangibles of military bearing and command presence would easily defeat the “acting” abilities of Hollywood’s current crop of leading men. With one very noticeable exception. There is an actor who has unquestionable patriotism and courage.A man who is an authentic American hero, decorated combat soldier and a damn fine actor. He actually looks the part and would have instant credibility.I am talking about Mark Valley,West Point graduate,Gulf War veteran and U.S. Army Officer.Mark Valley is Captain America.
By the way…Captain America should not be played by anyone British,Canadian or African-American anymore than someone white should play John Shaft ,or an American should play James Bond.Certain characters are iconic.Let them stay as their original creators envisioned them.I am a very proud African-American of Carribean and Latino descent. The “Black Captain America” is currently our President-Elect:-)That is good enough for me:-)
FIRST OF ALL HOW COULD LEONARDO POSSIBLY PLAY CAPTAIN AMERICA? HE HAS NOTJING IN COMMON WITH THE CHARECTER- BODY, MIND, SPIRIT, FACE ECT! YES HE IS AN ACTER WITH NO CHARISMA AS A LEADING MAN OF QUALITY NEEDED FOR SUCH A ROLE- THIS GUY(CAP) IS PERHAPS ONE OF THE HARDEST TO BRING TO SCREEN SUCCESFULLY DUE TO HIS ‘EXTREME’ LOOK, PERSONALITY, BELIEFS ECT AND WOULD NEED CAREFULL HANDELING – LETS HOPE FOR AN INSIRED DIRECTION AND WRITING WITH THE SAME KIND OF CARE AS IRON MAN, DARK KNIGHT, AND THE ORIGINAL SUPERMAN.
THE GREATEST ACTORS AS SUPERHEROS? 1CHRISTOPHER REEVE- SUPERMAN
2CHRISTIAN BALE-BATMAN
3ROBERT DOWNEY JNR-IRON MAN
AND POSSIBLY 4? TO PLAY CAPTAIN AMERICA ,BRADD PITT? WELL HE CAN ACT AND HAS THE PHYSICALITY FOR THE ROLE BUT WOULD HAVE TO ACCEPT DIRECTION AND STUDY IT CORRECTLY( THE BOOKS ECT)
AARON ECKHART HAS THE SKILLS TO DO IT CERTAINLY, PAUL WALKER WAS INTERESTING BUT TOO YOUNG PERHAPS?
PLEASE DONT MESS IT UP!
WARM REGARDS JAMES WATLING (UK)
P.S please excuse the spelling errors in previous comment- was typed in the ‘wee’ hours of the morning during an in-passioned plea for some sense to be seen in the casting of upcoming captain america film! have to say a world war two setting could be ideal!
ps- heres a hard word spelt correctly!- supercalifragilisticexpidalious
warm regards james watling
Whoever suggested Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson” needs to find themself some Captain America comics. Dwayne Johnson is African/Samoan.
Captain America was the epitomy of a WWII era American… White. And this is said with all due respect to race, with no bigotry intended.
As someone said either in this thread, or perhaps another, having someone non-white would be like having a non-black portray Shaft. It just doesn’t work no matter what politically correct lens you try to view the world through.
Oh, and Mark Valley would be the epitomy of just that.
Valley gets my vote.
