I went to see Gran Turino on Saturday- if only to appease my friend who loves Clint Eastwood movies. I’m not a Clint fan NORMALLY. But his performance and this movie—it’s absolutely wonderful. The story pulls no punches. The script is wonderful. the acting is wonderful. The direction is perfect. Seriously- the story drew me in and kept getting better and better. Men and women were wiping their eyes in the audience as we were leaving. This movie is SOLID. Benjamin Button is so overhyped. Brad Pitt doesnt deserve a best actor nom for this film. it’s simply not that good. It’s very very overrated.
Gran Turino- don’t miss it. It IS inspiring. It has a lasting effect on those who saw it. I was out at a bar and overheard people talking- the same types profiled in the movie- and they were wistfully moved. IT’S a POWERFUL film. This is coming from a person who normally wouldn’t recommend a Clint movie. It’s wonderful.

Very enjoyable movie and I’d recommend it to anyone. Just one criticism, the transition from the tough old neigbor that didn’t like anyone to the accepting neighbor trying to help seemed to happen too quickly and without firm reason(s).

I thought that Gran Torino had everything one could hope for and more. Clint does an outstanding job in direction as well as his portrayal of a hard-nosed Korean war vet. To be able to tackle the racism angle, and get laughs for it, in an overly pc world was quite an accomplishment and testament to the depth and heart of the movie. The academy of course did not give him the nod for acting (which i believe he earned), but its a travesty that the movie received no nominations whatsoever. The man Eastwood is so multi-talented and so unappreciated. . .
