After weeks of idle speculation by the likes of me, the awards season really kicks off this Thursday with the announcement of the National Board of Review’s list of honorees. A largely mysterious group made up of mostly older film historians and cinephiles, the NBR usually leans toward prestige films with a curve ball or two thrown in (The Bucket List on last year’s top 10, for instance). While they also give out awards for Best Actor and Best Actress (Clint Eastwood and Kate Winslet, I’m thinking), I’m most interested to see their top 10 list for this year. If I had to guess what their No. 1 film will be, I’d go the obvious route and say The Curious Case of Benjamin Button. And here are my predictions for their entire top 10:
The Curious Case of Benjamin Button
Doubt
Frost/Nixon
Gran Torino
Milk
Rachel Getting Married
The Reader
Revolutionary Road
Slumdog Millionaire
The Visitor
Post your top-10 guesses below. And on Thursday I’ll give a shoutout to the OscarWatcher who gets the most correct.

The Curious Case of Benjamin Button
Wall-E
Frost/Nixon
The Dark Knight
Milk
Rachel Getting Married
The Reader
Revolutionary Road
Slumdog Millionaire
The Visitor
I would agree with all of those, except I still think The Dark Knight could sneak in. So I would say…
The Curious Case of Benjamin Button
The Dark Knight
Doubt
Frost/Nixon
Milk
Rachel Getting Married
The Reader
Revolutionary Road
Slumdog Millionaire
The Wrestler
#1 Slumdog Millionaire
The Dark Knight
The Curious Case of Benjamin Button
The Reader
Frost/Nixon
Revolutionary Road
The Wrestler
Happy-Go-Lucky
Doubt
Milk
The Curious Case of Benjamin Button
Wall-E
Frost/Nixon
Gran Torino
Milk
Rachel Getting Married
The Reader
The Dark Knight
Slumdog Millionaire
The Wrestler
I don’t think The Dark Knight will be on the NBR’s Top Ten list because it wasn’t good enough. I would include Happy-Go-Lucky and The Edge of Heaven.
