I’m glad she got axed. While the locations were good, her directing took a lot out of the story. Sure, some of it had to do with bad acting and bad writing (I doubt they’ll change the cast, but at least get a new writer), but the director didn’t do a good job. I don’t like how they are trying to hurry this film up, though. I guess they are taking more from SMeyer than I thought. She was averaging about a novel a year, too, and it caused the Twilight saga to progressively get worse. I have no doubt that a rush job on New Moon will just ruin this movie. How are they going to pull off successful werewolves when they couldn’t even make Edward sparkle properly?

I’m sorry that Catherine will not direct New Moon. I though she did a great job with the budget she had. New Moon needs a bigger budget and can not be rushed. Two important factors Summit appears not to care about. They see a cash cow with the Twilight series. They know the fans will see the movie regardless of how much money they put in it. The books are great and the fans deserve a great movie adaptation. Summit needs to respect Stephenie Meyer and her fans and give us a great movie. Keep Catherine and give her the TIME AND MONEY to make a fantastic movie.

I think this might be a good move. I just hope they get somebody to do it justice! Twilight was good, but not as good as it could have been had the directing been better. Can’t wait for New Moon!!

While I enjoyed Twilight, and thought Catherine Hardwicke did a good job… I am excited for the possibilities of a new director. As the story goes on, it becomes more and more epic and I think another style of directing would benefit the story tremendously.

This could end up going one of two ways:
    1. New Moon benefits from a bigger budget and a new director.
    2. The second film is a train wreck with stilted effects and a clear case “Holy crap, we need to get this out as soon as possible.”

I concur with most of the people who have already commented on this. The movie was so DISAPPOINTING.
I brought my best friend to see it in an attempt to convince her to start reading the books. However, I merely strengthened her resolve to stay away from beautiful Edward.
And frankly, after this sad attempt, my love/hate relationship with this series may have just finally ended. THANKS A LOT, MS. HARDWICKE.

I recentley saw the Twilight Movie. I was quite disapointed, i am a massive Twilight fan. I don’t think the script was verry good. It was missing alot of thing’s i thaught were important, eg: “Twilight again, another ending. No matter how perfect the day is it always has to end.” – Edward Cullen. In that sentance was the whole meaning of why the Movie is called Twilight, and it wasn’t included. I’m glad they are going to use a differen’t director. The movie was a massive let down, but i still enjoyed it! another thin i did not like was that they carmmed months and months of the growth of Edward and Bella’s relationship into a couple of weeks. It just made it look like a really bad case of Puppy love. Oh well, i just hope New Moon is better. x

Another annoying comparison to Harry Potter. Can’t we get just one Twilight story without one of these forced comparisons?

Sorry, count me in on the group that’s thrilled with this.
She wasn’t right for the film and rushed through the development of the story and characters. And while I can excuse some of the special effects since they were working with a small budget, they have a hell of a lot more to work with and a lot more to lose. She may do well with a film like “thirteen”, but something like this series needs a more artistic/imaginative mind.
As for the cast, the only ones that need to be recast are Jacob and Rosalie. The rest were ok. Just tone down Eric a bit, that kid was way over the top.

I agree that this is a good move. However, the blame can’t be place completely on Hardwicke. A movie of this nature needed a bigger budget for special effects, and there was some pretty bad acting. The make-up was comical. I hope they recast Rosalie, Jasper (why did he look so constipated?), and Jacob. Also, I hope Rob works on his American accent a bit!

    HALLELUJAH!HURRAH!
I’m so glad they’ll give someone else a chance to direct New Moon…Sure, Hardwicke was “into” the series but frankly, she just didn’t do it justice. A fresh take is just what this franchise needs, very much a la Harry Potter. Bring on Alfonso Cuaron!

I’ve never read the books or seen the movie, but the fact that they’re releasing another in a year seems like terrible idea for the franchise. Regardless if that’s the reason the director left, now they have to put it out as quickly as possible and I don’t think giant blockbusters like this can be rushed.

God damnit, quit comparing Harry Potter to Twilight- I dont give a crap what any so called pop-culture know it all says Twilight is no Harry Potter at all, no way no how. So keep Harry Potter out of you press postings, and your blogs. My god – I would swear someone is behind this paying you great money to do this. The comparison between the two? There is no comparison. Harry Potter has sold 400 million plus copies world wide that is way more than twilight. The movies have made 4.5 billion worldwide, doesnt look like that will happen for twilight. So quit the comparisons.

  • Nicole

How is it unreasonable to compare two movie franchises inspired by fantasy-based novels written for young people? Certainly different in quality, scope, and execution, but awfully similar in target audience, popularity, and level of name recognition.
