Wow. Those are some pretty pale actors playing Sokka and Katara!

Part of me wants to hope that even if 89% of the avatar cast will be white and maybe one or two asians/minorities will play side roles…maybe they’ll do justice to the characters and that maybe M.Night isn’t just hiring these guys on the basis that they’re popular with american tweens.
…O WAIT..I SEE WUT U DID THAR SHYAMALAN.

Okay… First off, I mean no offense to anybody that has commented previously or will comment, but this is my personal opinion.
First off, I agree that the show is based off Asian cultures; I mean, look at the names and such. BUT, only a select number of the characters had Asian features. Aang didn’t. Katara and Sokka weren’t exactly Asian looking. In fact, they looked more Native American/Alaskan Native which would make sense because of where they lived. The Earth benders looked mixed Asian and African American-tribal. My point is, they did NOT all look Asian. The excuse “The cast is all white, not Asian, so I won’t go see it!!!!” is not an excuse at all…
Secondly, The Last Airbender is a wonderful show with LOTS of neat stuff happening. It will be a challenge for ANY director to pull off, let alone M. Knight. I think that he will do a good job with this movie because he does very well with expressive nature, which will be needed to make this movie great. However, on that same (c)

note, I think that he could ruin the movie as well. It’s all up to how well he does the element bending and expressions.
Now… onto what I think of the cast. I don’t know what any of them look like but I DO however know what Jackson Rathbone looks like. *Dies* As an avid fan of Jasper Whitlock Hale (TWILIGHT ROCKS!) I look the actor and think that he is amazing… But I don’t think that he’d physically do well with the character. He’s more than capable of pulling off the character in acting but he’s just too pale… I’d love to see him play Sokka though– I love Jackson and I love Sokka!
Jesse McCartney. Yikes… Prince Zuko is my favorite character and I am NOT happy about this. While I know that Jesse could play him well, he is not who I’d like to see play him. He would not love good with black hair. He won’t look good as Zuko… At all. This was horribly casted.
Now, a note for everyone… It is even stated in the article above that all of these actors have been ASKED or (c)

CONSIDERED. Nothing is permanent yet. Until then, none of us have any right to b**ch or complain about it.
    Get over it….

“The Suite Life of Aang and Zuko”

  • Moltar

DAKOTA:”He would not love good with black hair.”
“I look the actor and think that he is amazing”
    “TWILIGHT ROCKS!”
    You’re not really helping.
On a side note, probably it’s not that these characters are white, they may pull it off but it doesn’t change the opportunity lost to an otherwise mult-racial main cast.

  • Cecilia

No No No No NOOOO! If they let pansy Jesse McCartney mess up the role of Zuko I will be soooo upset! Zuko is a great and very complicated character, and they better pay him enough attention!

  • Cecilia

PS I love you M. Night always have, always will =D

Dakotah, you obviously know nothing of Asian people or culture if you don’t think Aang, Kitara, or Sokka look Asian. Typical ignorance when you lump the entire continent of Asia as one big group. Your ignorance is even more shown when you argue they look native american. Where the f*ck do u think Native Americans came from? Did you ever take a history class? They migrated from Asia, which is why share similar Asian Features. All of the different nations of the Avatar world were inspired by different Asian cultures. There was a mix of Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Pacific Island, and Inuit cultures all of which started in Asia. Your ignorance is further proof of why Hollywood is doing this, cause your basic viewer is ignorant to basic history. Yes the show was created by Americans so freaking what. Amos and Andy were created by white americans but it did not give it the right to be Racist. Charlie Chan was created by white people and it is extremely offensive!

where are the asian actors/ actresses? What’s the point in this movie without them?

    Multiculturalism PHAIL!

Before anyone argues it is a “fantasy” world therefore the cast can be entirely white, I argue this. I didn’t see a single ethnic minority in Lord of the Rings. That was set in a fantasy world. I don’t have a problem with that because it is a fantasy world based on European myths and legends. I am not saying there shouldn’t be any other races than Asian in this but come on, not a single one in the main cast? That is just ignorant!

  • Helenee

Hate the casting. Shamylamadingdongs gonna screw up the series. It should be an animated movie. I say steal back the AVATAR title.

  • Lavender

Okay, here’s the thing… you KNOW that there are TONS of Asian-American actors out there, kids to adults, who have more difficulty finding roles on TV and in movies just because white people get cast more. That’s just a fact. So why can’t we at least give them roles in a movie based on Asian things?! The reason they don’t LOOK Asian in Avatar is because Avatar is based on anime, which has a very distinct style. That’s no excuse to cast yet more white kids when there ARE Asian kids out there that could play these roles.
