MIA
THE DARK KNIGHT
anna faris for the house bunny
josh brolin for W and milk
melissa leo for frozen river
Taraji P. Henson for Button
Paper Planes for song, that’s the only thing that should be nominated from pineapple express.
I think Dark Knight should have been nominated for Best Picture. This was one of the most intelligent, fearless, brilliant and thrilling movies of the year. Let me say that I am speaking as someone who despised the comic book genre of movies. But Christopher Nolan’s uncompromising, unrelenting, thought-provoking film deserves to be among the year’s best. Thank goodness that Heath Ledger got nominated for his mesmerizing, chilling, wickedly funny portrayal of the Joker. He was the central force in a movie that kept you on the edge of your seat. No one can touch the grandeur of his performance. It was a tour-de-force. But Nolan deserves credit for his great screenplay and directing. Finally a movie that actually asks the audience to really think with the added bonus of great stunts and nonstop excitement. The Globes missed the boat by not nominating this film for best picture.
I think one of the biggest snubs was Rosemarie Dewitt for ‘Rachel Getting Married’, she is wonderful in this role, she had the more challenging role in the film, and in my opinion completely overshadowed Anne Hathaway’s over-acted performance.
WHERE THE HELL IS TROPIC THUNDER FOR BEST COMEDY?
MILK was robbed. What a betrayal of the Hollywood gay community. I hope the actors strike.
Although, The Reader may not totally come together as a film, behold Lena Olin at the end in 7-8 minutes of exquisite acting! I still get chills thinking about what she was able to do with such little screen time.
Dave, I do believe you have overlooked her. The Academy likes those kind of performanes, which although short, give the film its strong emotional component. That’s my prediction!
The majority is fair. I think the Globes are forgetting some important details:
Picture(Drama)- Milk, The Dark Knight
Picture (M or C)- WALL-E
In the drama actor, there are two overlooked people: Daniel Craig ‘Defiance’ and Benicio Del Toro ‘Che.’
Musical or Comedy missed a lot of Burn After Reading. For Actor, they needed George Clooney.
But otherwise, good luck nominees (especially Burn After Reading, The Dark Knight and The Curious Case of Benjamin Button)!
I’m very disappointed the very mediocre Mamma Mia! made it for Best Comedy. The only nominations that could be really considered one of the five best comedies of the year are Happy-Go-Lucky and In Bruges.
Oh, and why is Revelutionary Road suddenly the best thing ever? The acting nods are certainly deserved, but Leo and Kate were far better than anything else in there.
There’s too much talk of Revolutionary Road the film is all about the reunion of DiCaprio and Winslet. There both good actors, but who cares This movie is a box-office dud and reminds me of Sam Mendes trying to recreate American beauty. Slumdog Millionaire win best picture. This movie is in a class of its own with respect to Benjamin Button, and the the other best picture nominees who have gotten way to much exposure.
I’d be shocked if Sean Penn didn’t win for Milk, but then again Langella and Rourke don’t even have a shot to win best actor because of the people that run the Hollywood foreign press.
How is Revolutionary Road a box office dud? So far in its limited release, its been playing to near sold out crowds. It’s doing great.
why the negativity directed to Tom Cruise?
Just as I’m boycotting several businesses as a result of the Prop 8 vote, I’m also boycotting the Golden Globes for the foreseeable future for their Prop 8 vote on “Milk,” the outstanding biopic of Harvy Milk. I’m done with the beauty pagents. Get your Nielsens somewhere else.
Tom Cruise Looks Great. Too bad there are so many mean spirited comments about him. He was quite nice on the View last week.
Milk not being nominated for best picture or screenplay was an outrage, let’s just hope that the Oscars remember such an important film. The best film of the year.
Gus Van Sant was robbed, I can’t believe he wasn’t nominated for best director. Milk is the best film.
