hathaway’s speech was cringe-inducing. i kept hoping the classy viola davis would slowly edge her off the stage before she rambled to a commercial break.
Liz, I was thinking the same thing, but I’m assuming they wanted to bill Kate Winslet as a supporting character for The Reader so she would be able to get 2 Oscar nods, one for The Reader and one for Revolutionary Road. If I’m not mistaken, you can only be nominated once in a category at the Oscars, and she clearly has a bigger role in Revolutionary Road. It’s weird because Ralph Fiennes and David Kross are both supporting actors in the film as well. A movie with no leads…
Two Best movies were Dark Knight and Slumdog. I dont think you guys realize the enormous difficulty of filming a movie in India, especially something which is depicting raw India. If anyone who grew up in India or has visited Mumbai, Calcutta etc, will understand the magnitude of this movie. Boyle was absolutely brilliant with his direction and filming. Dev Patel is ok, nothing great, the kid who did the 1st part as a young Jamaal was excellent. Slumdog is not about the game show and fairytale ending, but rather everything else that surrounded that. Unfortunately many dialogues are in Hindi, which accurately cannot translate the emotion and the audacity of the conversation in subtitles. I understand some folks here in US will not be able to comprehend raw India and or how stunningly Slumdog stands out as compared to other movies, in terms of location, direction, dialogues (hindi), the cast and the harsh reality of child labor and slums in many parts of India.
A.R.Rahman Rocks. A Well Deserved Award. It’s about time he came into world’s limelight.
I didn’t have a problem with Anne Hathaway’s speech, just saw it was a bit long. But good for her, winning her first major award with an old costar.
Wish Milk had won best picture, but i’m not angry about slumdog taking it away from it. It’s the only picture I’m okay with taking the best picture from Milk. Glad that Milk won actor and ensemble, though!
Wish Viola Davis had won supporting. Thought her performance in Doubt was the best supporting female role of the year.
I’m still just shocked that Michelle Williams wasn’t even nominated (for Wend and Lucy). She gave the best performance of the year, easily. I guess no one saw it, which is tragic.
