Meryl is the best and deserves to win the best actress award now and ever.
I’ve watched all the movies this year and i think that Meryl should win not coz im from her fans bt coz she deserves that Oscar and its the time for her 2 take it she lost many Oscars bt she still fighting at the end 2 deliver the best movies for us nd shes amazing nd she will win….
I think Streep should win this one. Her performance was great and the only critics who seemed not to like her performance where the ones that wanted Cherry Jones to get the part—fans of the play.
Streep deserved to win oscars for Out of Africa, A Cry in the Dark, The Bridges of Madison County, Adaptation and I sorta thought she deserved it for the Devil Wears Prada.
They never give it to her because they just take her for granted. If anyone else would have given those performances, they would of gotten oscars.
Winslet is a good actress, but Streep could do her parts in her sleep.
Since the nominees have been announced, and all discussions about the chances of Ms. Winslet winning in the Supporting Category are now futile; I think that the Academy should repeat history—that is, give the Best Actress Oscar to BOTH Meryl and Kate. Remember the tie between Katharine Hepburn and Barbara Streisand (both good actresses by the way)? If that happens, not only will everybody be happy but the decision would be more sensible.
Meryl surpassed the over-rated Katherine Hepburn and now sad, at 60 years old, does not have the record to prove her greatness.
Hepburn 4 Lead Ocars for 12 nominations.
Streep has been nominated 15 times with only 1 Lead and 1 Supporting Oscars.
It is grossly unfair to Meryl to have been made to sing for her supper for 27 years!
There was no contest with Winslet’s two performances against Meryl in Doubt. She was brilliant and mismerizing in Doubt.
Meryl transforms herself into these Characters and it is time Hollywood recognises this woman as unique and give her her awards where and when awards are due her.
She deserves the Oscar for Doubt. Please do not let Kate Winslet cheat her out of her second Lead Oscar. She’s got some catching up to do. Stop taking her for granted, or Award her in retrospect for Out of Africa, One True Thing, Ironweed, Silkwood, A Cry In The Dark, The Devil Wears Prada, Adaptation and Bridges of Madison County.
Meryl Streep reading a phone book could lead to an Oscar nomination… and that is not a bad thing. The fact this woman is still working over the age of 50, in Hollywood, and still getting command price for working speaks volumes to just how great of an actress she really is. Will people be saying that about Anne Hathaway when she is 60, I doubt it. Kate Winslet is going to need a commercial hit to stay afloat in this industry. It’s sad, but true. Although she is wonderful in just about everything she does, she is going to need to put butt’s in the theatres. She can’t use Titanic as leverage forver.
