Underworld: Rise of the Lycans was the early pacesetter in the weekend box office race, grossing $7.9 million on Friday. That first-day sum was perhaps a bit better than expected, and it kept the franchise flick comfortably ahead of last week’s champ, Paul Blart: Mall Cop, which started off its second frame with $5.6 mil. Meanwhile, the weekend’s other big new release, Inkheart, trailed far behind with just $2.1 mil. Well it looks like I will be way off with my prediction of Inkheart(17.5)
Omg Inkheart really bombed. if it has a strong saturday, it might make 8.3 million over the weekend. That really sucks though, it looked interesting from the trailers. And Both Underworld and Mall Cop wil have weekend numbers between 18-20 million. It will be close. And Congrats Slumdog– 10 million hopefully this weekend will prove you are here to stay and hopefully cross the 100 million mark come oscar time. That would make you and Benjamin. Sadly the rest of the movies refuse to generate big money– again showing how the academy refuses to pick very appealing movies for Best Picture (both Frost/nixon and the reader will be outside the top 12 with sums of only 2-3 million. Ouch)
I enjoyed Inkheart. It was entertaining…not brain surgery, but fun!
Underworld was good but it could have been way better. It was a must see if you saw the previous two movies. . just felt like there could have been move to the story. Also wanted to see Inkheart but from the review is not as good either. . .guess have to wait for the DVD release.
I wish my 9 dollars for Rise of the Lycans was spent on watching the first Underworld on the big screen instead. That movie sucked.
It is not meant to be academy award fare, and thank God for that. It was well made, well acted and it was entertaining. Nothing wrong with this movie other than those who just like to criticise. They know what they can do, go on with their mundane unimaginative lives.
Loved Underworld – Rise of the Lycans! I can’t wait to own it on DVD.
Now the writers need to get together and make another movie surrounding the life of Selene.
