The Amy Adams effect

Doubtamyadams_l
Most OscarWatchers considered Amy Adams merely the lucky winner of the fifth Best Supporting Actress slot after the Academy placed Kate Winslet in the lead-actress race for The Reader. (I, for one, didn’t predict an Oscar nod for her, though I was glad she got it.) But in the weeks since the nominations were announced, I’ve been feeling a shift in support towards the immensely likable star. Just last night, another Academy member told me he voted for her. So now I’m trying to figure out what it all means in the supporting actress race. Does it indicate stronger support than expected for Doubt and a possible win for Viola Davis (or even Adams?). Or will Adams’ late surge result, Nader-style, in a down-the-middle Doubt split? If that’s the case, could my Penélope Cruz prediction end up coming true? Whatever happens on Sunday, I doubt this is Amy Adams’ last invitation to the Academy Awards.

I love Amy and am rooting for her to win! She was also great in Miss Pettigrew last year.

I thought was Marisa Tomei was the the number five nominee. I bet you though they were all happy about Kate Winslet was out of the category. I think Amy will split the vote with Viola and Penelope and give it to Taraji similar to what happened last year with Tilda’ win.

She’s my preference, but my prediction is Cruz.

She’s really talented. Its interesting how the awards voting goes down because often votes can split between 2 films with a 3rd winning out. Kate deserves the win though in the best actress category! – daterockstars.com

It has to be Cruz, she’s hilarious in VCB!

Amy is a great actress, though I think Viola will win for Doubt. I saw a preview for Amy’s new movie Sunshine Cleaning recently and it looks excellent.

I love Amy Adams. She has a really special quality to her that just makes you root for her, and she is insanely talented to go along with it. Honestly, I think Penelope will win because she has that whole move star glamorous thing going for her, but Adams gave the best supporting female performance of the year. She took a role that could easily have been overlooked, (because after all, she really has no “oscar” scene) and was a tour de force. I found her performance stronger than Viola (who was good, but really just was a bit one note) Philip and even the great Meryl. She was pitch perfect.

um… no. that would be Taraji P. Henson. where was she in any of the awards shows prior to the nominations?

I thought Amy gave a exceptional performance in “Doubt.” She played the character with lots of innocence and there were times in the film where her chacter had to be strict with her students and she did amazing job with that as well.

I would love it if Amy Adams won the Oscar. She was fantastic in Doubt, and quite frankly, she was better than Viola Davis because she displayed a whole range of emotions, whereas Viola was rather one-note. Here’s hoping Amy pulls off an upset and wins on Sunday!

Amy Adams is a very talented actress but there was nothing special about her Doubt performance. Davis did more in 10 minutes than Amy did her in her various one-note scenes. I prefer Davis or Tomei for the win.

It’s those eyes! They’re just so honest, how could you not vote for her.

I would love it if Amy Adams won; she truly deserves it. Her role in Doubt was totally understated by the bigger names and the bigger tears shed in the movie, but when I went to see Doubt, I was most amazed by her performance over the others’ (although every performance in that movie was great… I might discount the camera in that…). Regardless, I doubt Amy Adams will win because she was in such an understated role and because of her Doubt co-star and rival, but if I chose the Oscar winners, I would give it to her.
And you’re right for sure; this isn’t Amy’s last Oscar visit. She’s a wonderful actress and I look forward to seeing more of her.
