UPDATE: From Academy spokesperson Leslie Unger: ”The
document is a complete fraud. PricewaterhouseCoopers is still counting
the ballots and there are only two people there who will know the
complete list of winners in advance of the envelopes being opened
during the ceremony. The Academy’s president is not advised of the
winners in advance and no such list is created with his name on it.”
ORIGINAL POST: Has everyone seen the purported list of Oscar winners that’s floating around online? If the memo, purportedly from AMPAS President Sid Ganis, is real, the Academy board must be having a collective heart attack right now. But if you ask me it’s a beautifully crafted fake. Many of the supposed victors are expected: Slumdog Millionaire, Kate Winslet, and Heath Ledger. But look at some of the other winners: Milk for editing? In Bruges for Original Screenplay? Those really seem like major stretches. And does Ganis even find out who the winners are beforehand? And could all the ballots really have been counted by now? I guess we’ll find out in a few days whether it’s valid or not. Selfishly, I’m praying it’s a hoax—otherwise EW only predicted 10 out of 24 winners correct.

This is hilarious. I hope it’s real for The Dark Knight’s sake.
Dave, are you serious? I’ve always heard that the accountants memorize the winners, destroy the ballots and keep no written record of the winner — much less send a memo to AMPAS! Unless everything I’ve heard about the ballot-counting is false, I’d have thought you’d have known right away this couldn’t be true.
Some of the wins make sense. others dont. iron man for FX?
honestly ?
it was great movie but not AMAZINGLY WONDERFUl in terms of FX.
I personally think that In Bruges winning best screenplay is fairly likely. But Defiance is NOT getting best score – it’ll either go to Slumdog or Benjamin Button. But the rest seem half- to completely-possible.
Err, it’s a fake. Ben Burtt didn’t work on The Dark Knight for sound mixing. It was these three: Lora Hirschberg, Gary Rizzo and Ed Novick. Whoever made this list copied the guys behind Wall-E for sound editing and put it for The Dark Knight.
I meant sound mixing*** The guys behind sound mixing for Wall-E were given credit for The Dark Knight win for sound mixing. It’s a fake.

I find it hard to believe that Amy Adams would win for Doubt. She doesn’t even have the best supporting performance in her own movie. Other than that, I think all the acting categories make sense
Trust me. Its fake. I was there when we made the fake list.
The list is total BS. It’s a total hoax. It’s almost hilarious.
Complete and utter bull. For one, tallying the votes is probably still going on. Second, only two men know the winners until the list is sent to AMPAS (which wouldn’t happen so soon)
And In Bruges won’t win Original Screenplay. I don’t know why people consider it a possibility. The last time an original screenplay won without any other nominations was like, 1955.
Methinks that this is an elaborately crafted ruse to get people to tune into the show to see if the memo is correct. It’s a known fact that every year the ratings for the oscars get worse and worse. And from the looks of things, this year’s ratings looks to be the lowest yet.
surprised that this hasn’t been done sooner than this year! No one is supposed to know who the winners are except those accountants, don’t they say that every year?
Don’t give the winners out!! The Academy should have taken care of this before this hoax started happening. They need to stay ahead of all the Internet and TMZs and hackers that leak the results out there. They need to cover themselves first before someone else blurts it all out!
Hahahaha I liked the “realistic” paper creases in the memo. The biggest stretch to me here is “Jai Ho” NOT winning best song…
