Summit Entertainment is trying to make lightning strike twice. The studio behind the Twilight movie series has plans to adapt a buzzy young-adult novel called If I Stay with Twilight director Catherine Hardwicke at the helm, EW has learned exclusively. The studio would not confirm the plan; a Summit insider said the parties are negotiating and a deal is not yet complete.
The book, from author/journalist Gayle Forman (Sisters in Sanity), doesn’t hit shelves until April 2 but was scooped up by Summit last month. The project centers on 17-year old musician Mia who, after a violent car accident, finds herself watching her damaged body taken from the wreck. She must decide whether or not she has the will to live.
It’s interesting that Hardwicke and Summit would team up again considering how the two parted ways after Twilight became a massive worldwide box office success. This reunion suggests that rumors of discord between the director and her studio may have been greatly exaggerated.

ooh- this book sounds really interesting- definitely putting it on the ‘to buy’ list.
i think catherine did a great job with what she had to work with for twilight… good for her!

hardwicke is a truly damaged
human being with real evil
running through her veins…that’s if she has any
left. very hard to work with.
i don’t know why all this buzz about this director – quite honestly, the direction was one of the weaker points in ‘twilight’ – i.e., the film with way too many closeups and some questionable choices. great for the girl to get a job, but whoopdedoo, she’s not that great. the woman who directed american psycho – she’s awesome.
OMG!
has this book been released? i couldn’t find.
This book is amazing. I had the honour of reading a review copy and having seen Thirteen/Lords of Dogtown/Twilight, I know that Catherine will bring it. Gayle is a superb writer and I know that Catherine (as a screenwriter herself) will do this book justice if this all happens.
For a non spoilerish look at what the book is about, check out my review http://persnicketysnark.blogspot.com/2009/01/if-i-stay-gayle-forman.html
hmm book sounds a lot like lovely bones
I read an advanced reading copy of If I Stay. It was fantastic. Very moving, really well written. I think that it would be a fabulous movie, if done right. It would definitely be worth seeing.
Its great news,Catherine directing”If I stay”.Wld Catherine pls consider Robert & Kristen in if you ever decide to do it …it would be great! So looking forward to it!Thank you
twilight is awesome but some ofvthe sences weren’t done very well but I think she will do a great job on this movie if she does it for sure!!!!!
I have to laugh at some of the comments here…You dare to criticize Ms Hardwicke and half of you can’t even spell…That’s rich…I’d watch anything she directed…Did you see Thirteen? Lords of Dog Town? Um? Did you know so far she has made over 300k for Summit with her “lousy” direction? Get over yourselves…

I would love to see Vanessa in a more serious role like this. She did well in 13 with Evan Rachel Wood and I know she would do well in this as well.
Your right. I think vanessa hudgens could play a music role really well and I would love to see her in a romance/drama movie. I would love to see her opposite Robert Patterson, shia labouf, scott porter or chace crawford.
I love Robert Patterson. I don’t know about Vanessa Hudgens acting yet. I’ve only seen her in high school musical movies. I’m willing to see what she can do.
