Earlier this week, Kevin Smith hinted on his weekly podcast that he might be taking a bold new direction with his career and that he’d have more details in the near future. But it seems as if he has been beaten to the punch. This morning, sources tell EW, Smith was surprised to see the web crawling with details about A Couple of Dicks, a buddy comedy he’s set to direct at Warner Bros., starring Bruce Willis and Tracy Morgan. The director put out calls to the studio to nail down the source of the leak but hasn’t heard back yet.
The project, written by Robb and Marc Cullen and due to start shooting sometime in May, follows two retired LAPD veterans who get back in the game to track down a stolen baseball card. It marks a major departure for the foul-mouthed filmmaker in that it will be his big-studio debut and the first film he didn’t write himself.

So I am guessing he is starting to run low on cash. He is finally selling out-nice, what a loser.
anything has to be better than Clerks 2. Worst. movie. ever.
Kevin is a decent writer but a HORRIBLE director… Maybe this will also be his debut of camera movement.
This plot sounds absurd… it probably belongs here http://failedscreenwriter.com/ rather than on the big screen.
wow i disagree with all three of the first comments so much

Just rented “Zack and Miri Make A Porno” a few weeks ago. Smith has lost the funny and his relevance. How fitting that he’ll be directing the equally non-funny and painful to watch Tracy Morgan.
Kevin is not known for his camera work, that is for sure. So to have him direct a film WITHOUT a script penned by him is like a car without its tires.
Last time Kevin tried his hand at this sorta thing was when he tried the failed Ben Affleck/J.Lo vehicle Jersey Girl. That film had “directed by DP” all over it and had little to none of Kevin’s trademark humor. And that film flopped. Needless to say, so will this. He needs to stop selling out and do what he does best, movies like Clerks 2. The normally bankable Seth Rogen wasn’t enough to save his arse in Zack and Miri Makes A Box Office Dud. He needs to just be happy with his own accomplishments, and stop trying to break out as a big hollywood director. Pathetic to watch him keep doing this too himself, sheesh. What a loser.
The screenplay was on the list of the best unproduced screenplays of 2008
Since it’s about cops-turned-private-eyes, the studio should stick with the original title.
