I didn’t think Watchmen would make as much money as everyone thought.
I don’t get why Witch Mountain is number one though. Why is Dwyane Johnson resorting to these crappy family movies? He’s actually not a bad actor, surprisingly! He could do better than Witch Mountain and The Game Plan.

    To Mandy:
Agreed 100%, in regards to the Rock. He simply does not mesh well with all these kids films he’s starring under recently.

Kyle, did you just ask why people think watchmen is a bomb because it’s made 86 million bucks in 10 days? Well lets think about this. It cost 150 million to produce and they spent another 75 million to market the film. Plus the overseas grosses for the film are terrible. If a movie that expensive drops 67 percent in its second weekend, one word comes to mind: BOMB! And if a movie of this size has to wait for dvd and video sales to bail it out, thats pretty bad.

The Watchmen graphic novel is extremely over rated. The characters aren’t very likable and the plot is nonsensical and tedious. I’m not the least bit surprised the over hyped movie plunged at the box office by the 2nd weekend. It had to be 2 1/2 hours of sheer torture just to sit through something so pointless.

    “The characters aren’t very likable”
    Are they supposed to be?

Hey, Aaron…just wanted to thank you for defining “bomb” to Kyle. Yes, it’s a big ol stinkin’ BOMB. Everyone who wanted to see this piece o’ poopola has already seen it, and the real losers are lining up to see it again.

I wouldn’t call Watchmen a complete bomb. Yeah, the marketing and production costs won’t be covered by the sales here and overseas (maybe it’ll grab $100 million, but not much more beyond that), but for the graphic novel’s cult status and Watchmen’s unconventional story/characters, it could have been a lot less profitable in the box office. Blade Runner’s original theatrical release in comparison is a complete travesty (roughly $7 mil, which even factoring differences in ticket prices is still abysmally low for such a critically renowned film). Then again, in an age where Superman Returns is known as a financial failure, despite Warner Bros. gaining money from the film, it’s not hard to see why Watchmen would be seen as a colossal flop by analysts (but in Watchmen’s defense, most moviegoers thought Superman Returns was a bore, myself included). Watchmen’s box office may be lukewarm, but not downright awful the way some of you make it sound.

Watchmen is not your standard superhero movie by any means.
Many expected Fantastic Four and instead they got something entirely different.
The whole idea of deconstructing super heroes is something that the general public is ready for. People still see superheroes as light entertainment.
The graphic novel is an acquired taste and the same goes for the movie.
I think it was one of the best films I have seen in a long time and rivals Kurosawas when it comes to grasping the horrors/threat of nuclear war.

ok jonas i really liked Watchmen too, but lets not go overboard.

I can see why it lost a lot of box office luster after the first weekend.. http://opponensplasty.977mb.com/we.html dvd
