'Twilight' sells more than 3 million DVDs in first day of sales

Tagged:

No surprises here: Teen girls lined up en masse to take Robert Pattinson home with them when the Twilight DVD went on sale Saturday, complete with midnight release parties. The romantic vampire sensation, which has grossed $380 million in theaters since its November release, sold more than 3 million copies in its first day on the shelves, studio Summit Entertainment says. That puts it in the top five best first-day DVD releases in the last two years, among the likes of Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End, The Dark Night, Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, and Transformers.

Does this include all the pre-orders? I know it was doing killer business on Amazon, Borders.com, etc. for months in pre-sales.

  • john

    the dark night?? really EW??

  • Bixby

That’s knight with a K. Glad to know that your in charge at a film website! (note sarcasm):(

Sadly, if Natasha Richardson had not died this week, the cover of EW would be about the release of Twilight.
    I don’t get it.

  • Sia

Wow for girl fanbase those are huge numbers ! Because guys won’t touch it which is sad.
I thought the movie was good but witha 37 million dollar budget it could of been better. Those are impressive numbers because the other four top movies were 125 million dollar budget films that were loved by women and men SO THESE NUMBERS ARE IMPRESSIVE !!!

  • BOSTON

    Yea, it’s “The Dark Knight”, w/ a K!
I’m not surprised: a “Twilight” fan @ EW can’t spell the correct word in this scenario…

  • Rob

Wow Bixby. The guy correcting The Dark Knight error actually using “your” instead of the correct “you’re”.(note sarcasm)

  • anna

I’m one of the Rob Pattinson crazed fans, although I’m not a teenager, I did buy 5 copies for me and my girlfriends. But we still had a sleepover at my house and watched it anyways.

  • dan

    @Bixby. It’s ‘you’re,’ not ‘your.’ :P

  • bookgirl

Do the numbers include iTunes downloads. The numbers were big there too.

    To 2cents:
What’s even sadder is that you’re so cynical and immature (if not offensive) to think that in the first place. Besides, Natasha Richardson isn’t even the cover story. It’s Paul Rudd. Even if EW did, a meager sized B- review isn’t much to draw teen girls to newsstands without feeling like they got ripped off.

    TWILIGHT SUUUUUCKS!!!!

  • Matt

The books are written for pre-teens who aren’t ready for Bram Stoker or even Anne Rice. The movies are made for morons, by morons. Catherine Hardwicke is a horrible director who’s never made a decent movie and Summit is a low-budget studio that has no idea how to handle a franchise (3 movies in a year and a half!?)!! EW is even stupider for giving this piece of s#!t movie so much coverage! Grow up people spend your money on something with some artistic integrity and stop contributing to the dumbing down of western civilization!

  • Nicci

How about matt your a moron who takes the time to get on here and taunt people. I am sure you need to grow up!
