During a presentation at the movie industry’s annual ShoWest convention in Las Vegas on Wednesday, Sony distribution president Rory Bruer said that the studio is going back for thirds on the Ghostbusters and Men in Black franchises. Now, of course, the question on everyone’s mind is: Who will be starring in said monster-fighting movies? Sony isn’t
talking (Bruer’s announcement arrived almost in passing), but it is expected that Ivan Reitman, Harold Ramis, Bill
Murray, and Dan Aykroyd will return to be involved to some degree on a followup to 1989′s Ghostbusters II. The story is being written by Office scribes Gene Stupnitsky
and Lee Eisenberg, and it will focus on a new crew of Ghostbusters who are mentored by the veteran fighters. (Contrary to Internet buzz, Judd Apatow is not on board to produce.) Meanwhile, Men in Black III
is in even more of a nascent stage. Sony won’t comment on whether
Will Smith will be involved in the project in any way, either as an actor or producer. There is said to be interest in one screenwriter
for the job, but he has not yet been hired.

I would take anything said on April 1st with a big grain of salt. If it’s still being talked about in a month, then I’ll believe it.
If either movie goes ahead, please producers, make both of them without any Seth Rogan, Rachel Bilson, Jessica Biel, and Jessica Alba involvement.
A third Ghostbusters? DO.NOT.WANT.
Someone please talk sense to all involved. Wasn’t the *disaster* of the second movie enough?
PS The concept’s been done already. It was a cartoon called Extreme Ghostbusters- and it sucked.
Ellie, shut your dirty mouth
If either movie goes ahead, please producers, make both of them without any advice from anyone named Cleetus…there is nobody more perfect to be a new generation Ghostbuster that Seth Rogan.
and somebody please comment on the fact that I accidentally wrote that instead of than
Just eat a veiner already!
To Ellie…
Wash your mouth out with soap – Ghostbusters II is one of the best films of all time. LOVE IT.
Hey ellie, “Do Not Want”…this isn’t 4chan you ass. Shut your face.
Ghostbusters III, yes please.
hmm..I’ve been wondering what with the recent Hulu commercials if they were thinking of going back to MIB…could be an 4/1 joke though…as for Ghostbusters III why not?…I can see the young guns being Seth Rogan as a young Dan Ackroyd/true believer…Matthew Lilliard as a young Harold Ramis/science…scratch that Matthew Lilliard would be a better young Bill Murray…and (why the heck not)…Mr. Harry Potter himself as a young Harold Ramis…why not be a kid genius…oh well…
and how bout Kristen Jenovich (?) – from Pushing Daisies – as the receptionist?
Hollywood needs to leave well enough alone!
Matthew Lillard? MATTHEW LILLARD? You gotta be kidding me…or his publicist.
This reminds me of those Revenge of the Nerds sequels–each one a greater travesty the farther from the original they went. Why rehash or reinvent? Come up with something new, Hollywood!!
MIB will fail if Will Smith isn’t in it. As for Ghostbusters – I’m more interested in the game purely for the fact that Dan Ackroyd and Harold Ramis have written it.
