Miley Cyrus’ Hannah Montana: The Movie jumped out to an early lead at the weekend box office, banking a huge $17.4 mil on Friday. That’s the best opening-day gross for a (live-action) G-rated movie ever. The Disney Channel adaptation is on pace to bring in more than $30 mil this Easter weekend, which should put it ahead of reigning champ Fast & Furious. Vin Diesel’s car-franchise flick earned a strong $10.6 mil on Friday. The weekend’s other big new releases garnered first-day grosses that were in line with expectations: Seth Rogen’s Observe and Report laughed up $4.8 mil and Dragonball: Evolution conjured just $2.1 mil. Friday’s rankings are below, and please check back here on Sunday for a full weekend recap in the Box Office Report.

I m not surprised when me n my little bros went to c Monsters Vs Aliens little girls outside Hannah Montana theater were watiting for the movie to finish so they could go in, we all could hear the song inside playing from the movie outside those little girls were dancing outside the theater..it was cute to see that she is bringing this kind of joy in little angels lives.
Girl power was certainly out in force Friday for Hannah Montana and so was teen/kid power for Monsters versus Aliens. Their success shows just how insignificant movie and tv critics opinions are becoming because when they shower praise on filth and garbage while belittling innocent films like these that are just meant for family fun and escapism, their critiques become useless. With Hannah Montana looking at 40 to 50 million this weekend and Monsters VS Aliens eyeing another stunning 30 million dollar weekend, both will shatter low expectations.
No surprise here — I mean, personally, I wish Hannah AND Miley would both go away forever. But if they both bring joy to some small target market, so be it.
The silver lining news for me was that Observe & Report is just # 4 on this list. Hooray. I thought that movie was SO not funny. I don’t care what Lisa S. says.

Big opening but doesn’t reach $100 mil, just like her first movie. What a joke!

hannah montana the movie was very good.
Wow, strong start for Hannah Montana! Even ahead of Fast and Furious. But I would have expected Observe and Report to perform better than its first day results. But maybe the mall cop theme may have been overused when the Paul Blart movie did it first.
she is awsome
I would luv 2 be Hannah Montana she is so awsome
It’s so good to see that Hannah Montana is doing good despite the negative reviews. Im not sure where it comes from, but it’s like the entire entertainment industry is out to get Miss Miley Cyrus. They spend a lot of their time bashing most of her projects, as if she’s brought them some kind of harm. It’s hard to take anything that the media says seriously because all of the reviews come from a biased point of view. I’ve yet to read one positive review about the movie, yet everyone that i talked to said they loved it. The numbers as well are showing that the American public still loves Miley and Hannah. I think it’s time for the critics to let this girl live her life instead of bad mouthing her.
and i LOVED the movie!!!!
