Angelina Jolie to play Patricia Cornwell's Kay Scarpetta

Filed under: Books and tagged: ,

Angelina Jolie has signed on to portray crime novelist Patricia Cornwell’s heroine Dr. Kay Scarpetta in a forthcoming movie from Twentieth Century Fox and its Fox 2000 division. The screenplay will be based on Cornwell’s bestselling Scarpetta series of books, about the beautiful, hard-charging medical examiner who solves crimes, but it will not be focused on any one specific novel. The project has yet to hire a screenwriter or a director. Mark Gordon and Geyer Kosinski will produce.

    Angelina Jolie? Seriously?

Elizabeth Mitchell from “Lost” would be the perfect Kay Scarpetta. Please not Angelina!

ANYONE B U T A. Jolie!!!!!! Also, I always thought Kay was dishwater blonde?

    • Rebecca May

Jolie is not mature enough for Say Scarpetta. I think Jolie would turn me off watching a Scarpetta movie and I have been dying to see the books turned into movies.:(

HOW IN THE WORLD WOULD ANYONE PUT HER AS SCARPETTA? I do not know what kind of casting director would ever even think she could play this part !!!! I do not know anyone who would think she could fit this part. We your fans and I have spoke to them and no one can imagen her..Yuk…please dont ruin this for your fans we have waited on this day..even if she has signed she should have respect for the fans to not take this part. HOW COULD YOU????

Precisely. I’m thinking Jodie Foster. Whenever I read a book from the Scarpetta series, I imagine that if a movie is to be made, Jodie Foster would be perfect. She’s believable and a good actress, but Angelina Jolie is neither. If she were cast as Kay Scarpetta, I’ll just have to stick to my imagination, then.

FINALLY THEY ARE MAKING THESE BOOKS INTO MOVIES! I WAS WONDERING WHEN THAT WOULD FREAKING HAPPEN!! ;)

PLZ tell me your joking she just has to be in everything and destroy it. Kay is demure a mature while Ang has multible horrible tattoos and looks like trailer trash. Honestly the producers must be stupid!!!

  • Tracy

Couldn’t they find someone more believable?

    • jackie

      Like Kristen Scott Thomas?!?

      • Allie

Yes! I hadn’t even thought of her, but she would be perfect! I can’t believe they cast Angelina Jolie – she’s a good actress, but completely wrong for this role.

      • Erin

OMG! Kristen Scott Thomas would be just sooo perfect! Jolie will honestly make me not want to see the film. I have been holding out wishing they would make one, and now I read this? How disappointing

  • Ali

So excited!! My favorite actress & my favorite novels together!!!

    • Bern

You got to be kidding. Are you sure that you are reading and understanding the character. Angelina would be HORRIBLE

  • Holly

I think this could actually work. I’m more surprised that they are finally making a movie from the Scarpetta books. It’s awesome that finally we can see this character on the big screen!

  • vonkrum

wrong, wrong, wrong.. so wrong. don’t do it patsy … noooooo … laura linney would be way better!!

I love Angelina Jolie as much as the next person, but I don’t think she’d be believable. I love these books and Scarpetta is supposed to be a blonde Italian. Ummmm, anyone else see this not going well? She is also NOT tall. I see her being played by someone older, not old, but older, more mature, sophisticated, and believable for certain. I was actually thinking someone more like Charlize Theron. Not much older, really, but definitely more believable. She also molds very well on screen, to play just about any role, can be made to look older, and is shorter. Just a thought off of the top of my head, and definitely comes off more sophisticated. I am definitely open to being wrong here though, too. I do NOT think any of the “hot young blondies” ought to be up for the role, however. Not a chance.

  • wow

That choice is horrible! Angelina Jolie is NOT Kay Scarpetta. Did the casting department even read the books???? This is going to tick off lots of fans.

  • A.R.

I agree, this is such a wrong fit! Laura Linney would indeed be much, much better.

  • Non

I guess that Pat Cornwell wasn’t able to maintain creative control over her creation, thus the sad and unfortunate casting choice. What a waste of some awesome material.

Pat must not have control! OMG really, Angelina Jolie. Give me a break! Why aren’t they doing specific book titles and making a series of them? This is SOooooo wrong!

    • Rhi

That Joanie chick sounds insane….I wonder if this movie is still in the works

    • Amy

I can’t believe this. Next thing you know they’ll have Brad playing the role of MARINO at this rate!

      • eva

        :-D Agreed!

  • Joanne

I thought she was going to take a break for a year to raise her kids. They are turning into a side show at the the circus. I feel sorry for all those kids. There life is a living nightmare. Parents so selfish and fighing all the time. They should focus on whats really important. The Kids. Angelina stay home and stop putting your face in ours, we really cant stand the sight of you. Never saw any of your movies and never will. You disgust me. Cant stand selfish mothers.

  • Clearsky54

    Dear “Joanne”:
Angie and Brad are a side show only because of the intense media attention. And maybe she is taking a break for a year to raise her kids. If you read the article, it said there was no director or screenplay yet. And why would A&B’s kids’ life be a “living nightmare”? And how do you get “selfish and fighting all the time”? Based on what? Your vivid “imagination” (I doubt you have one –or a brain). How do you know that A&B don’t focus on their kids? And if you haven’t seen any of her movies, how can you say she is putting her face in yours? (Like that would ever happen.) I’d really like to know how you, in your brilliance and clairvoyance, know that Angie is selfish? She might be, but at least she’s not stupid, like you.

  • J

no no no no. i won’t see the movie if she is in it. wrong choice. very wrong choice. what are they thinking.
