'Twilight': Will 'Hard Candy' helmer David Slade direct 'Eclipse'?

Summit Entertainment is circling edgy filmmaker David Slade (Hard Candy, 30 Days of Night) to direct the third Twilight movie, Eclipse, reports Deadline Hollywood Daily. Summit has no comment, but sources tell EW that Slade is indeed in talks for the job, although no deal is in place.

Candidates including Juan Antonio Bayona and Drew Barrymore have also been mentioned for the Eclipse gig, which Chris Weitz, director of the series’ second film, New Moon, will not be taking on. Eclipse is due to be released in June 2010. Production is already underway on New Moon; development of the fourth Twilight book, Breaking Dawn, hasn’t progressed as far as some have assumed. NO! Not Drew Barrymore. Anyone but her and the last director. Please.

  • Elphie

Drew confirmed she’s not going to be doing it – she was considered, but they didn’t choose her

The director of HARD CANDY for a kids movie? LOL
Although it would add a certain edge to the series.

RUN, DAVID SLADE, RUN FOR YOUR LIFE!
Seriously. I actually liked Hard Candy, and you don’t deserve to have your name associated with this.

I can’t wait for New Moon to come out, so that everyone will see how epic and beautiful the story is :)
Can’t wait to hear who they ultimately choose as a director for Eclipse!

  • Kate

Wait, so this film is being RELEASED in only about a year, and will probably have to go through fairly sizable post-production work for the effects, and they still don’t have a DIRECTOR?
Dear God, could Summit be doing this any more rushed and half-assed?

  • michelleg

yeah i dont care who directs it as long as they make it as good as i hope new moon will be

  • helen

    Far rather Bayona do it.

  • Heather

I love those movies. Hard Candy was freaking awesome. This sounds like a great idea. And Adam, Twilight is not a kid’s movie.

  • Nerwen Aldarion

I think a harder edge would be perfect for Eclipse, it is the more action packed of the sereies with a great fight scene between Victoria’s newborns vs the Cullens and the wolves. So far I’m pleased

  • Slow Down

I’m really concerned about how fast they are putting these movies out. They aren’t even done filming New Moon and they have a June 2010 release date for Eclipse. That is really pushing it, especially since these movies will need a certain amount of CGI. Rushed CGI looks bad. Slow down Summit and make these movies right.

I think it is great that eclipse is going to be released in June 2010, i read all the books 3 times in the last month,,they are awesome & most people cant seem to get tnough fast enough,,, bring it on,,,,

I don’t undestand why people that don’t appreciate (& LOVE!) the Twilight Saga even make comments about Twilight related stories. Everyone has a right to their own opinion of course but if you don’t like the books or the first movie why read this article and make a negative comment? Just a thought! I personally LOVED all four books! Have watched the first movie numerous times and can’t wait for the others!! TEAM EDWARD!!!

the director from 30 days of night??? that was possibly one fo the worst depiction of vampires ive ever seen! it truly was a terrible movie. this piece of newes scares me. it make me think this director may change the vibe and essence of the Cullens. can’t we get any experienced and good directors?? Summit keeps hiring mediocre directors.

I know a lot of people hate the idea of this director landing the job- but I am not one of them!
He’s not going to change our vamps, because the foundation for EVERYTHING has already been set.
What people need to look at is the gritty look he could bring to the action-packed Eclipse. He could make it on-the-edge-of-your-seat THRILLING! He IS A GOOD DIRECTOR. Just because you might not have liked his vision, doesn’t mean the man doesn’t have skills. Because he does.
