From someone who knew nothing of Star Trek prior to this, I say great movie. Afterwards I did a Kirk and Spock illustration.

Why do promo people continue to think women do not watch Star Trek and sci-fi in general? I have been a lifelong sci -fi fan and know tons of women who are too. However, no one ever asks what we wtch. The marketing depts at studios must think all women watch are Grey’s Anatomy and desperate Houswives so they don.t bother to research a broad base of women and losing a lot of money in the process.
Star Trek is totally AWESOME!!!! Great story, great casting, great action. It will appeal to everyone. I can’t wait for the next one. JJ Abrams rocks.
This Star Trek experience reminds me of how I felt when I saw the Mission Impossible movie years back. Instead of the intelligent team-work show I knew, they killed off the team in the first five minutes. All it turned out to be was a Tom Cruise action movie, not a Mission Impossible movie. This new Star Trek did even more than kill a team, it killed two planets and 40 years of TV history. Yes, it may be fun action movie for people to watch, but it’s not Star Trek. I’m surprised they didn’t try to get Tom Cruise for this movie too. Just the latest, and I’m sure not the last, classic show to be trashed up by Hollywood for easy money.

As I’ve asked with another poster who made similar comments, *why* did you even go see the film? Abrams made it crystal clear from the very start, that this would be different from the usual Trek fare. As for the quick buck aspect, Star Trek, like any entertainment project, was created to *make money.* They don’t do these movies/shows just to make us happy, so I see nothing wrong with re-doing something they legally own. Further, if they didn’t do a fresh take on Trek, it would most likely die, because some TOS cast members are already dead, the others quite elderly. Trek lives, because it found a new audience. My fond memories of prior Trek remains intact – it has little to do with this film, which is what Abrams said.

I’m also a female who loved Star Trek since I was a kid (the original!) and I liked the new movie even though it seemed awfully hyper to me. My 10 yr old loved it though. Bringing in the next generation of fans!
I’m a 20 year old female and I’m not a Star Trek fan. My brothers watched it when I was younger and I hated it.
I went to see this movie with them and I actually really liked it. To be fair, I’m a HUUUUGE action movie fan. I love Transformers and XMen and destruction movies and all that, so that may be why I liked Star Trek. But it was still really good, regardless if you’re a Star Trek fan or not.
LADIES: If you like Chris Pine (which you should), see this movie! The underwear scene was too short, but damn.. that alone was worth the $9.
I thought it was interesting that the Captain’s name in the story is Christopher Pike, and the actor playing Kirk is named Chris Pine.
Just an interesting coincidence.
