I am a straight male, 28 years old, and went to see this on opening day with my girlfriend – and it was my idea to go. I love Meryl Streep – she is magical in everything she appears in and I will go again to see her in J&J. She is beyond great.
I saw it and I LOVED it. And seeing “GIJoe” was never really a serious consideration, even though I LOVED the cartoon and had many of the toys.
I saw it and so did another friend (male) – both of us like to eat (and cook). The theater probably had a few more women than men in it but we went to a Sat. afternoon show and then to dinner (where the food seemed better than usual).
20 yr old guy here. Saw it at a prescreening, and I though it was great. Very funny, and the food was just amazing throughout.
I did not see it on its opening weekend but plan to see it sometime in the next week. I like everything Meryl Streep is in and Amy Adams just got positive notice in the LA Times. So, while I may not be the intended demographic I am very interested in this movie.
You know, I wanted to see Julie and Julia and didn’t think I could even ask any of my guy friends to go with me, but reading all these posts makes me think I should anyway. And by the way, the reason I wanted to see it, truly, was because Owen’s review made it sound so interesting as a movie.
Well, I hate to burst your bubble, but my 2 friends and I are going to see the movie tomorrow and we are in thr 45 to 55 range. I can’t wait to see it!!!!
Saw this movie twice with my husband.,..we BOTH loved it. Took my kids once also, boys 16 and 19 and they enjoyed it also. We were very inspired by the movie!!! Meryl Streep deserves an Oscar!!!!! She is WONDERFUL as Julia!
This movie is for everyone!!!! I went with my wife and we both enjoyed it very much. We are goign to do a recipe a week!!! It’s great to see a great movie like this…one for everyone! ANd Meryl is GREAT!
I went to see this movie. Loved it! Early forties and I took my 13 year old daughter along. We are both Meryl’s fans so we enjoyed her performance.
I think the critics are harse on Amy Adams. She was given Powell’s role to play and to her credit, she brought her out–turned out to her detriment as well.
People just need to seperate the arts from reality.
Just for the heck of it, I think most of the critics could have been kinder.
Just reading all the comments here made me smile and very optimistic. The comments were just fantastic: true, to the point, endearing, refreshing. We need a movie like this anytime over an overhyped action flick! Meryl definitely owns the summer! She’s like the female Will Smith!
I did go see Julie & Julia today, and I am a 17 year old boy as well as some of the other commenters. I did not think it was the best movie in the world, but I always love watching Meryl Streep act. Always, even in stuff like Mama Mia. But the stereotypes are true to an extent, i would rather go see a crappy action movie than a crappy rom-com. That doesn’t mean I don’t like seeing a good movie. (500) Days of Summer is my favorite movie of the year so far, and I see a lot of movies (last year I saw every oscar movie nominated for picture and all the acting categories). A good movie is always worth seeing, in this case Streep and Amy Adams made Julie and Julia a good movie.
I saw it a couple of weeks ago. I liked it a lot. I sympathized with the Amy Adams character, and I was blown away by Streep’s performance.
I am a male in my 60′s. I am not interested in cooking, but I usually enjoy good movies regardless of the genre. In my opinion, this was the most boring film I have seen in years! Furthermore, It is incredibly overrated!
