I could get into what a great movie i thought Superman Returns was, but this is about BG. I personally didn’t care for the new series. Too dark and gloomy. I welcome a new movie based on the original. And c’mon, you don’t really think an updated version of the original will have robot dogs do you? Even the cylons will probably be less clunky and more modern. Look at the updates everyone is raving about in the new Star Trek. I loved the original series. For the 70′s it was a good show, especially considering there was no sci-fi channel to show it. Any sci-fi/fantasy series that made it on the air back then was quite an accomplishment. It was only cancelled cause it cost too much to make. And NO i don’t think it was a Star Wars rip off! Star Wars made it possible, but it was more like Wagon train in the stars. Good show which i might add made the current one possible. Everyone seems to forget that with all their bashing. So yes Bryan Singer! And yes New movie!

A movie based on the 70s ORIGINAL Battlestar Galactica series –the ORIGINAL story– would be fantastic, especially with the technological advancements and the elevation in styles and techniques that have occurred in filmmaking since the 70s. Anyone who looks at the 70s show and complains about it, well, gee whiz, of COURSE the effects, etc., are not that great as compared to TODAY… it DID come out over THIRTY years ago, after all! But back then, especially for a TV SERIES, it was cutting-edge! And for the new fans, who do you think created the Battlestar Galactica story? Not Moore, but Glen Larson. So Larson has every right to do a movie based on the 70s series; it is HIS idea, HIS concepts, HIS story in the first place (he OWNS it). And I especially hope that he continues from the point where the 70s series left off! For the new fans, why would you care? the new BSG is SO completely NOT like the 70s series, you might as well call it something else (and it’s so incredibly non-scifi, displaying such a lack of imagination in creating a ‘scifi’ world, in order to explain the human condition–you might as well go watch Law & Order). So, with the totally different story elements between the 70s Battlestar Galactica and the new Syfy series, there will be no competition. The new fans stick with the Syfy series, and the Larson Battlestar Galactica movie will have its old (and new) fans. Both ‘win’. And lastly, new fans here go on and on about being ‘respectful’ to the Syfy series but what about being respectful to the original series, the original story??? You are only watching a pale imitation, after all (for the new Syfy is not really Battlestar Galactica since 99% of the story was thrown out the window. The new series is only using the NAME, after all –and yes, it’s done well with its stories, its acting, its SFX but the stories are NOT Battlestar Galactica stories… it’s not the other way around, where the Larson movie will be jumping on board the coattails of the Syfy series. It was the SYFY series that uses the Battlestar Galactica name for its own back-beating. When you get disappointed with the new Larson movie since you only relate to the new Syfy series, now you know how the old Battlestar Galactica fans will feel.

marianna, you don’t know what you want.
You telle that the new BSG is not the story of the original, and now you say that the story of the syfy show is from the original.
IN addition you don’t understand what is science-fiction.
The scifi-show is science-fiction, the original is more space opera with the good guys versus the bad guys.
Scifi is not about laser making pew pew, and shining dress.
Question the human condition is scifi, like syfy’s BSG did.
Speaking of the consequence of the technology, is scifi, and BSG does it.
BSG has all the themes of a good scifi show : science, technology, politic, philosophy, religion, morality etc…
The original serie was not so deep in all this themes.
BSG is a mature serie, not based on a no-brain universe black vs white, but a shade of grey universe, then a more realistic universe, less for the children.

The original was cool at his time, but i have forgot it, like many people. When i think to olds SF series, galactica doesn’t come in my mind.

The new BSG got a lot of awards, with a best show of the years. It’s one of the best scifi series, for many scifi’s fans.

The SYFY series was never planned to be a carbon copy of the original , because the serie would have been useless. It’s not a remake, but it’s the same synopsis.

The movie would not be useless since it will be based on the 70s series, with the original story, and would be the truly “reimagined” TV series (since the CREATOR Glen Larson will be at the helm). The new Syfy series was not ‘re-imagined’ at all, but a totally new story (and, therefore, that’s why this Syfy series, as a “re-imagined tv series” is AWFUL, because it has nothing to do with the original 70s story, except for the use of some of the names, the use of the word, ‘frak,’ and the simple story element of ‘humans vs. cylons”). The Syfy series has its OWN story. So, yes, a movie based on the 70s original series (Larson’s creation, after all) is completely needed (and wanted by the HUGE fan-base that have been out ‘there’ for over thirty years and still exist today). And yes, a Larson movie would be AWESOME, especially with today’s better SFX, improved filmmaking techniques and styles and current acting abilities.

Battlestar Galactica was created by Glen Larson, not Ron Moore, so Larson has the right to do whatever he wants with it. Bring it on, Glen. Show these Ginofiles what Galactica is all about

    • Erik Lindstrom

      yay!

  • Rand

YES! YES! YES! YES! YES! YES! YES! YES! YES! YES! YES! YES! Gino is over, now we can get back to Battlestar Galactica. That means Starbuck, Boomer, and Apollo are all men again. Jamie Bambler male? I don’t think so.

  • RAND

Great news! Bring back the greatest sci-fi series ever! And please find a good part for Dirk-THE ONE AND ONLY STARBUCK-Benedict!

Singer wanted to add to the old series, but Moore wanted to retell the entire story. He did an excellent job until the last episode which I thought was the weakest episode ever.

I was hoping to see earth in the far future, not the early years of earth.

  • SlackerInc

I was a big fan of the original series, and was initially sceptical of the Moore version, but was won over. The first 25 episodes of that recent version were some of the best TV ever. Problem being that there were 75 episodes made in all, and only a few of the last 50 approached the quality of the first 25, with some of them (including the finale) being real duds.

So I’m fine with this and will look forward to plunking down money for a ticket when it comes out. I loved X2 and didn’t mind the Superman reboot nearly as much as most of you, btw.

Three different versions of the same concept. It worked well for King Kong, it should also work for Galactica.

  • Erik Lindstrom

There is only one God and that is original Creator Glen Frackin’ Larson. The new show by Ronald D. Moore sucked ballzzz!

I don’t understand how people can claim to be huge fans of BSG but are already swearing never to see a big screen version without even having seen a trailer. Honestly, I’ll take anything BSG related from anyone. It doesn’t mean that it’s going to be good or that I’ll like it but I just have to risk it and watch. Also, @charlie on page one, Spielberg would be the best way to ensure this movie ends horribly.
