Is Basterds a spelling typo? Shouldn’t it be spelled “bastards”, or is their something within the story of why it is misspelled?

      tarrantino did that on purpose

  • James

G.I. Joe might not be high art, but I don’t see why it deserves a dig when EW keeps shilling for franchises that are just as awful if not worse. So what makes Joe any more worthy of a sneer than Transformers or, for the love of God, Twilight?
Seeing Basterds this weekend and can’t wait. And Will, the misspelling is deliberate. It’s not a typo.

I’m pretty sure I can’t sit through an entire movie watching Pitt make that rediculous jaw-jutting face.

I really like Pitt as an actor. I find he makes he choices mostly based on interest not on what they will do for his celebrity (like Tom Cruise). He is not afraid to be unattractive (12 Monkeys) unlikable (Kalifornia) or weak (Legends Of The Fall). I hope IB does great business for him and Tarantino.

2 things I can’t wait to see this weekend; Nazis getting their heads beaten in and the Red Sox getting their playoff hopes beaten in. Should be fun!

Nathan I couldn’t agree more about Inglourious Basterds you A-rod loving SOB.

Just saw the basterds, it is just brilliant. It would be great if our theaters did not sell food. It’s hard to watch a film while surrounded by huge men attached to their feed bags, chewing like cows.

I’m glad James and others are calling EW out on their misguided G I Joe hate. It’s not an arthouse film but neither is alot of the reel garbage they promote incessantly. It’s impossible to take critics and reviewers seriously when there’s so much inconsistency in their criticisms and so much favoritism in their reporting. Learn to call a spade, a spade regardless of what studio, tv network, or other media outlet sponsors it. People don’t want to hear how wonderful something is when it’s really boring or disgusting, or just plan awful. And consistent lies leads to a lack of trust and a lack of followers, which result in a lack of sales. BTW, I saw Inglorious Basterds today. It is super long, boring in sections, extremely violent, contains Tarantino’s trademark weird combo of matching out of place music with cinematography, and its not the bloody mess that Kill Bill was. Still though, it is brilliant especially in the way it all comes together in the end. I’d give it 3 out of 4 stars.

  • Tru box office weekend preview

Inglorious Basterds opens to 14 million which is similar to what District 9 did last Friday.

District 9 tanked +60% to start off the weekend. Tremendous hype can only do so much for a movie. It actually has to be entertaining to sustain an audience week after week.

G I Joe sustains its audience raking in nearly 4 million and on pace for a + 12 million dollar weekend as Saturday and Sunday matinees will once again pump up its numbers.

Time Travelers Wife and Julie & Julia battle it out for 4th and 5th place while the rest of the new releases could have used some pumping up as they all, SHORTS, Post Grad, and X Games 3D, arrived DOA.

Inglourious Basterds is great filmaking. Anybody who says is boring is because you are young and just like explosions and chase scenes or robots killing each other all the time. The basterds is not only Brad Pitt and his crew is about evryboady the is against the nazis is this movie. The movie goes at its own pace but is a beatiful pace, setting up the action scenes. Its a film for adults than can enjoy a movie that is 85% subtitle. I can enjoy an all out action movie but give me a movie like the basterds and i will enjoy it more because i can sit and watch characters play of each other with a great script. Tarantino has the ability and not much people can comprehend that kind of filmaking or just dont see the point of it. Me and millions of other people can appreciate when movies like this come once evry 3 or 4 years. Long live the basterds!!

Hmm, district 9 drops around 60%. Now lets see if EW makes a point to note that as it did OVER AND OVER for GI Joe. Though it seems the bonehead who wrote this article is already blaming Basterds for it potentially dropping. So much for fair and equal treatment. Get over your hurt egos EW, GI JOE was not nearly ss much of a pariah as you wanted it to be. Its made over 200 mil world wide…too bad
