I’ve had a chance to see three Toronto films that could end up factoring into the Best Actor race: The Road (Viggo Mortensen), The Informant! (Matt Damon), and The Boys Are Back (Clive Owen). I’ll be conducting OscarWatch interviews with all three guys at the festival; in the meantime, in Part 2 of our Toronto preview, Missy Schwartz and I assess their chances. And please follow me on Twitter (@davekarger) for instant updates during the festival and beyond.

DDL in “Nine”
ditto to that
FINALLY VIGGO IS SEEN AGAIN – HOPEFULLY THIS YEAR HE’LL WIN IT
Viggo! Viggo! Viggo!
ABSOLUTELY VIGGO!!! All the way this time, BABY!!!!!
Clive! that would be awesome.
Anyone but Damon!
Sharlto Copley in District 9
I agree with Scott. Sharlto Copley in District 9 should definitely get an Oscar nomination.
I’ll third that motion.
Viggo! I’m glad others like Matt Damon and Clive Owen are being considered as well. The Academy needs ‘new’ names on the nominee lists, yet names audiences are familiar with.
Christoph Waltz should win for his performance in “Inglourious Basterds,” but the Academy will probably classify him as a Supporting Actor.
Just saw Inglourious Basterds and totally agree with your assessment of Christoph Waltz – excellent performance! (Bingo!) I found myself staying to read the credits because of him – i had to know his name!
it’s not tha t we need new faces, only great talent and acting..so my vote would be none other than Brad Pitt..he was awesome in “Inglorious Bastards” everyone needs to get over this thing about him and give him his due! This isn’t whom we like or dislike..hellooo..it’s about the “Acting..did anyone forget that?
He’s the worst actor ever!
Brad Pitt is a wonderful actor!
I agree with you 100%.
Aww, I adore Clive.
But I’m super-psyched for “The Road” (I’ve been since I first read the book a little over a year ago), and I really think Viggo is going to be the one to beat.
How come nobody has posted a fall movie guide yet?
Gee, EW staff, can’t you transcript these video columns for those of us who prefer to read vs. watching the silly videos?
agreed; i never watch the videos
joseph gordon-levitt…500 days of summer!!
Definetly a nomination for Joseph Gordon-Levitt in 500 days of summer. SO far the best movie I’ve seen this year.
I still can’t believe Damon hasn’t been nominated since Good Will Hunting. He was Oscar-worthy in The Talented Mr. Ripley, Syriana, and The Departed.
IF VIGGO MORTENSEN, MATT DAMON, AND CLIVE OWEN DON’T GET OSCAR NOMINATIONS I’M GONNA BE ANGRY CAUSE NOT ONLY ARE THEY TALENTED ACTORS THEY ARE TOTALLY UNDERRATED!!!!!! THEY DESERVE TO GET OSCAR NOMINATIONS!!!!!
