Of course they’re not going to shelve Wolfman, it was originally supposed to come out this year and was delayed. They’ve already spent most of the budget on it so it’s ridiculous to hold it up now. This film shouldn’t event be part of this discussion.

State of Play was a good film. Funny People had its moments but I didn’t like it as much as I thought I would. The major movie studios are public companies, and their shareholders wants to see profits. But films geared toward more mature viewers aren’t going to die out. Actors, writers, and directors will continue to find ways to do the movies that they want to do. Whether that’s at Universal or somewhere else, movies like State of Play and Funny People will continue to be made. Studios would never be foolish enough to make only films like Transformers and GI Joe. I think Universal may reduce its slate of “human scale movies with adult complexity.” But many of these films will still get made, and at least a few of them I’m sure will be at Universal.
