Yeah, you’re no animation expert if you think “Monsters vs. Aliens” is getting nominated.

If there’s 5, it will be “Up”, “Ponyo”, “Coraline”, “Fantastic Mr. Fox” and either “Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs” or “Princess & the Frog”. Hate to see what will go if it’s only 3.

the five nominated will and should be , Fantastic MR Fox, Coraline, Princess and the frog, UP, and Ponyo sorry but 9 wasn’t all that and cloudy looks real cute but hasn’t had the best reviews im sure ultimately up or ponyo will win

My argument really is – why NOT have 5? I really can’t form a distinguishable reaosn why it’s a “bad” idea.

    My prediction:
    1 – UP
    2 – PONYO
    3 – CORALINE
    4 – PRINCESS & FROG
5 – either FANTASTIC MR. FOX OR METABALLS.

I liked Coraline for it’s animation techniques … but story wise it was just Alice in Wonderland … totally unoriginal and I was very bored the whole time.

Hows about The Secret of the Kells? That would be a fun.

+1; Brendan and the Secret of the Kells is a magnificent film; the art design is gorgeous. I’d also add into the mix Mary and Max, and if I was being mischievious A Town Called Panique :)

They might do different techniques this year.

Also if Up does get nominated for Best Picture, it might be eliminated from animated category. For instance, Waltz With Bashir was the first animated feature to be nominated for Best foreign language film, however when WALL-E won last year, it beat Bolt and Kung Fu Panda. Waltz might have been nominated if it was eliminated from foreign

    Here’s my predicted 5
    Monsters Vs. Aliens(CG)
    Coraline (Stop Motion)
    A Christmas Carol (Motion Capture)
The Princess and the Frog (Cell)
Ige Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs (CG)

I like most of the discussion going on here and totally agree that there should be 5 nominated animated films this year. I think this has been one of the strongest years for animation this decade (if not the best). I really hope the Academy doesn’t do something stupid like screw Coraline out of a nomination. Here’s my Top 5 predictions:
    1) Up (duh…DUH)
    2) Ponyo (Academy loves Miyazaki)
    3) Coraline (dark horse but totally deserving)
    4) Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs (one of the biggest surprises of the year)
    5) Toss up between: 9, Monsters Vs Aliens, Princess and the Frog, Christmas Carol, and Fantastic Mr. Fox.

I cannot believe you didn’t mention Coraline consider earlier in the year critics were saying it was the shoo-in to WIN.
