Gotham Award nominations: 'Hurt Locker' in, 'Precious' out

the-hurt-locker_lThe Gotham Independent Film Award nomination lists were revealed today, recognizing a few expected indies (The Hurt Locker, A Serious Man) while surprisingly neglecting others (where the heck is Precious?). Because the Gotham nominees are determined by small panels of four people each, today’s results won’t necessarily foreshadow the Spirit Awards or Oscars. But they’re still fun to check out. Here’s the full list of nominees; the awards will be presented on Nov. 30.

Best Documentary: Food Inc., Good Hair, My Neighbor My Killer, Paradise, Tyson

Best Ensemble Performance: Adventureland, Cold Souls, The Hurt Locker, A Serious Man, Sugar

Breakthrough Actor: Ben Foster, The Messenger; Patton Oswalt, Big Fan; Jeremy Renner, The Hurt Locker; Catalina Saavedra, The Maid; Soulémane Sy Savané, Goodbye Solo

The Hurt Locker is the best film I’ve seen so far this year (after Up, naturally)–I hope more Academy voters remember it a few months from now.

Yay for The Hurt Locker, Adventureland, and Sugar!

I think the reason Precious isn’t nominated is that it hasn’t yet been commercially released in NYC – or anywhere else, for that matter.

    These awards mean nothing.

These awards mean nothing? Why, because you don’t see Where The Wild Things Are on the list?

    • LostBoy68

No, they mean nothing because they have absolutely no baring on any of the major awards and the only reason they get any press is because they are one of the first out of the gate. They are about as relevant as the Hollywood Awards.

I think the Hurt Locker is on its way for an Academy Award nomination…now that the other upcoming awards will recognize it and make it visible in the eye of the acadamy voters with nominations as this.

“Adventureland” was blah. It wasn’t terrible, but it wasn’t memorable, and it certainly doesn’t belong on a “best of the year” list. This entire list becomes suspect with “Adventureland”‘s inclusion here.

Yes, perhaps this award not that exclusive, but I love the fact they give appreciation for the “non-too hollywood” movies with A-star list actors. Hurt Locker & A Serious Man are awesome! Invictus & Nine are too hollywood for me, which are boring & predictable. Ben Foster & Jeremy Renner are brilliant by the way :)
