I feel the exact opposite. I can’t stand the toothy earnestness that’s a consistent line in all of Swank’s movies. Tilda Swinton is my go to gal, though.

It’s really nice to see people respond to a Lisa Schwarzbaum post that doesn’t bash her and her reviews excessively. She’s clearly intelligent, and actually very nice; who else would actually read what people write about her AND respond to them? She actually communicates with people who read her work and is interested in feedback. I love that about her.

Jean Reno, he should be in more movies. He was excelent in The Professional, The Pink Panther, For Roseanna, The DaVinci Code, etc.

  • Zach

    Laura Linney

Wow, some great feedback on here. I’m glad it’s not just bashing of Lisa or Hilary or anyone else. I love the suggestions of Sigourney Weaver, Laura Linney, Tilda Swinton, Frances McDormand and Anjelica Huston. I’m a huge Hilary fan and think a big part of her as an actress is (besides talent, obviously) that she isn’t a run-of-the-mill bimbo. She’s unique and that sets her apart, but like Lisa says, also makes it difficult to cast her, because she’s not interchangeable. I like Zellweger a lot for that reason too. She’s different but still appealing and (I think) talented. Yay for talented unique actresses! (And actors, of course!)

Branden in “Boys Don’t Cry” was not a “girl living as a boy”. He was transgendered; a man in a woman’s body. To say otherwise is transphobic language and really pretty insulting.

    • Bryan

How can a scientifically correct statement be phobic. “Branden” was born as a female and was living as a male, thats just the truth of it and not insulting.

    • Miya

      1. That can be argued.
      2. If it’s so insulting, why don’t you explain why instead of instantly calling someone ‘transphobic’? Make it a ‘teachable moment’ instead of screaming ‘hate speech!’ Just because someone isn’t an expert in the current party view of radical gender politics doesn’t mean they’re trying to insult you. They just don’t know any better. As a fervent supporter of lgbt rights, you embarrass yourself, me, and any Why waste your energies looking for reasons to be insulted?

A classic example is Bette Davis, in my opinion.

    • Fridge

Agreed. She really wasn’t beautiful in the conventional sense, but she certainly had an amazing prescence on screen.

Kristin Scott Thomas, Laura Linney, Meryl Streep, Frances McDormand and Maggie Gyllenhaal. Too bad Holly Hunter has turned to TV because she also fits. Debra Winger was great with her selections.

Mark Ruffalo – he is much better than the ‘boyfriend’ role in those cheesy rom-coms. He can be excellent in the right project, and I will see anything with him in it.

  • ernie

I agree with most of these. ummm Geoffrey Rush, Kate Blanchett, Helena Bonham Carter, Helen Mirren, Sarah Jessica Parker, Tim Roth, Steve Carell, and Rob Pattinson (although I hate Twilight with the passion of 1,000 suns). He seems like a nice kid, and he’s unconventional looking.

    • ernie

      I shouldn’t call him a kid when I’m 22, should I? lol
