“A remake of Yogi Bear seems to be an incredibly unnecessary project but with these inspired casting choices perhaps a good movie will prevail.”
So true.
And how is The House Bunny a kids movie again? Tween maybe, but kids? No.
I love all of you doubters. This project has winner written all over it. Sure there have been “not so hot” attempts at adapting beloved cartoons to live action, (too numerous to list here) but few have assembled the kind of talent that this one has going for it. Wild Hogs shouldn’t have been a big hit but the screenplay by Brad Copeland didn’t hurt, and who would have ever guessed that another “Journey To The Center Of The Earth” would turn out to be a summer blockbuster. Thanks in large part to the fantastic directing of Eric Brevig he totally understands effects, and the blending of real, and cgi. He also gets how to mix action with humor. So add this to a great cast, and like it or not this film is going to be big. You heard it here first. Mark my words, I’m a tillywinked prognosticator.
I think you’re confusing commercial success with quality (as evidenced by holding up “Wild Hogs” and “Journey to the Center of the Earth” as examples). Yes, this movie will probably make a lot of money, but that doesn’t mean it won’t suck.
nope, I really enjoyed both Hogs, and Journey. I was surprised not really expecting much from either.I was more trying to point out creative success as opposed to commercial though both films were both.
John: The Spumko (JOHN K) Yogi cartoon where BooBoo got rabies was hysterical. Do you disagree?
Telly B: That film was called “Observe and Report”, not “Serve and Protect”. I agree that Anna Faris is a “talented, sharp comedienne”; did you see the film in question? She was, well, talented and sharp in it. And it’s a great, if relentlessy bleak, movie.
Maxwell: Anyone who liked Wild Hogs enough to admit it in public automatically loses all credibility with me. And I agree with Splinky– just because it did a big box office doesn’t mean it was good. Is Kangaroo Jack in your DVD player?
Is nothing sacred when Yogi Bear is about to be ruined by the big screen?
Inevitability No. 1: This will blow.
Inevitability No. 2: This will make a shitload of money.
