Jason Reitman’s Up in the Air has taken something of a back seat in the Oscar-buzz department over the last month or so as Precious has been dominating the conversation. But now that the George Clooney comedic drama has won the National Board of Review prize for Best Picture and is finally hitting theaters in New York and Los Angeles tomorrow, its sure-to-be-fantastic reviews will soon elevate it to movie-to-beat status. Here’s Part 1 of my OscarWatch interview with the hyper-articulate writer-director, on working with Clooney and obsessing over frequent-flier miles.

Clooney might get his Best Actor oscar finally! Well deserved after films like Clayton and Syriana!
Um…he won an Oscar for Syriana.
He won best supporting actor not best actor.
Colin Firth is going to win the Oscar for Best Actor. Mark my words!
Nice interview but did you ask any questions that were included in Reitman’s famous pie chart?
Dave Karger, I just love you! I love your interviews and was so bummed after TIFF that the number of videos posted was so stingy. Now I am hoping that as Oscar season approaches, more will come out of the woodworks. They are a delight to watch. Thank you! Love them and you! (in a non-creepy way)
Dave,
This may be random, but I’m curious why Sunshine Cleaning has not been mentioned at all this awards season. It’s a financially successful (it grossed as much as Hurt Locker), quirky indie with big awards-friendly stars. When talking about the lack of original screenplay candidates, I’m surprised Sunshine’s name hasn’t popped up in the conversation. Has everyone forgotten about this movie, or will it come out of nowhere to score nominations like In Bruges?
LOVE GEORGE!!!!
