I would love to see a biopic of teacher Jane Elliot. She taught little kids about racism through a hands-on experiment and was simultaneously persecuted and revered for it for the rest of her life. And she didn’t back down even when she was ostracized by her peers because she believed so strongly in what she was doing. That takes real courage.
I’d like to see a biopic of Neil Young. Someone who would comment what they felt through music whether it clashed with public opinion or corporate culture. He played with whomever he wanted and grew to iconic standards on his own terms. Interesting…
What about “Coco Before Chanel”? I didn’t see it, but wasn’t that a biopic? And does “The Young Victoria” not count? Also, I know it’s from 2001, but there was a TV movie called “James Dean” with James Franco in the role, and it was pretty fantastic. That’s what put Franco on my radar.
I’d love to see something about Walt Disney, maybe even combine a Walt-Roy Disney biopic. I’d also love to see a real biopic of Kurt Cobain–”Last Days” doesn’t count, in my book–too fictionalized.
Also, I recently went to a talk and briefly got to meet Elliot Tiber, the guy “Taking Woodstock” is about. The book it’s based on covers so much more of his life story, and based on the talk he gave, he’s had a fascinating life outside of his Woodstock involvement. A real biopic on him would be kinda cool.
Milk was the best film of last year, and definately should have been mentioned in this article. It means so much to me, I can;t imagine my life without Harvey Milk now that I’ve seen it. He changed this country for an entire group of people, and should have more recognition for it.
Adding onto my previous post…
Milk really only tells the later years of Harvey Milk. I think they should make a biopic about his earlier life in New York, his life with Joe Campell, Jack McKinley, and his and Scott’s early years. THat would really fill in some blanks for people not able to discover more about his life. Yes, I am kinda a fanftic, but he was just so awesome!
Has there been a really good Orson Welles biopic? I think that would be tremendous. Also of Joseph Cotten or Basil Rathbone. Or Gertrude Stein. Thornton Wilder. Antonin Artaud. Jean Rosenthal. F.T. Marinetti. etc.
I also would love to see a GOOD biopic of Howie Mandel. A film that captures his OCD without sentiment, just showing how it has affected his life and how he deals with it.
Also Ruby Bridges. At 7 years old, she was the first black student to integrate schools in New Orleans. Norman Rockwell did a pretty famous portrait of her, and it has come to define her life
Norman Rockwell would be a pretty good biopic, too.
At one point I started working on writing the script for a John Lennon biopic. Then I realized the inherent problem: trying to do him justice in a feature film of what stuidios consider to be reasonable length would be impossible. You would need at least a three-part miniseries. Last year there was Cadillac Records which was a sort of biopic sbout Chess Records and some of the artists signed to it. It was a good try. But overall too much got left out. Plus Jennifer Hudson would’ve been better as Etta James.
It would be nice to see more good biopics, despite any fictional spin Hollywood would put on them.I have read that Liam Neeson is rumored to be starring in a bio of Abe Lincoln sometime in 2011.Also,I would love to see a modern biopic of MLK,preferably with an actor the caliber of Terence Howard starring.Paul Whitfield did a pretty good job in the 1978 made for television bio.
