In the Electric Company, which I watched for the first time as an adult just a month or so ago, he was hilarious. I’d like to see him do comedy again. Most actors say comedy’s harder, which I believe, I mean, look at how few really funny comedies have been made in the past decade. I hate to see that part of his talent go to waste just because it won’t bring an award, not to downplay the amazing gravitus he brings to dramas. But really, he has another gift he isn’t using.
I’ll have to rent the two movies mentioned in the article. But of all the movies I have seen with Morgan Freeman, I believe he gives Shawshank such a depth that together with Tim Robbins creates a masterpiece. Either alone would have created a decent movie. They bring out the greatness in each other.
I thought his current movie and Shawshank were ok. I found the acting in both ok but I hardly found either movie or the acting, great.
When some recall Se7en, they mention the final head in a box scene or the grisly murders or how hot Pitt is in it. I recall an incredible Morgan Freeman performance that I can’t shake. Whomever won the Best Supporting Actor Oscar that year, just know it belongs to Morgan Freeman.
Also, Invictus is a great film. I think Morgan will be at the podium accepting next year.
To all of you who say “IF Morgan Freeman committed incest” with his ADOPTED DAUGHTERS’S daughter it’s his business not the public’s–YOU’RE ABSOLUTELY WRONG and have the values and morals of a PIMP. “IF” Freeman actually did this thing, his FANS and no one else has any business holding this man up as someone to admire simply because he is a “great” actor. It is this type of attitude that makes actors and people with money think they are above the law. Support him if YOU want, but don’t say “what he did” is HIS business only…the public has a right to know who “HE” REALLY is morally and ethically. The PUBLIC has a right to choose whether they want to SUPPORT HIS CAREER AND HIS PERVERTED LIFESTYLE “IF” he did it. As far as I am concerned, HE needs to do some explaining because I notice NONE OF HIS CHILDREN have been attending the premiers for Invictus like they have done in the past for most of his movie premiers. His “supposed” business partner Lori McCreary (probably another one of his whores) has been on his arm at ALL of the events for Invictus–not any of his children–not even his actor/son Alphonso Freeman. Something is amuck.
As for the Enquirer–most of what they have reported about Morgan Freeman has been TRUE. IN EARLY 2008 when Freeman was giving interviews about what a good marriage he had and looking forward to celebrating his 25th Wedding Anniversary (his wife Myrna supposedly left him in Decemeber 2007), the Enquirer was reporting that Myrna had left him and had filed for divorce after she found out about him and his “old” Confederate mistress Mary Joyce Hays. Freeman steadily denied that his wife had filed. But when the pictures of him and Hays hit the Enquirer and the car accident happened (with another mistress-to-be), HIS UNTRUTHS were out in the open and he couldn’t deny anthing anymore. Instead HE FOUGHT TO HAVE HIS DIVORCE PAPERS “SEALED” in Tallahatchie County Mississippi (I guess he has more pull in MS than he would in New York).
If the incest rumors are true, Morgan Freeman deserves the same type of outcry from the public and CONSEQUENCES as TIGER WOODS…”IF” the allegations are true. And somebody needs to be finding out if they REALLY ARE.
Freeman is a great actor, but I think he won the Oscar for one of his worst parts. He couldn’t seem to decide if his character talked with or without a scratchy throat. His best performances have been in Shawshank, Nurse Betty, and Street Smart. Anything that gets him out of his usual role of Mentor to the Human Race.
Going to see Clint’s new movie today. I always take chances with his movies because they have such morbid endings. Remember Million $ Baby. Come on Clint, give us a happy ending.
I think we all knew it was a matter of time that Morgan Freeman was gonna play Nelson Mandela the way we knew Patrick Stewart was gonna play Professor X in the X-Men franchise
His performance in Lean On Me was absolutely amazing. It was the same year as the film version of Driving Miss Daisy. One of the best year’s work of any actor in my lifetime as far as I am concerned.
I haven’t seen Invictus as yet, but I plan to. I loved this piece written by Owen Gleiberman. A lovely depiction of Morgan Freeman. I just love Morgan Freeman, ever since the Electric Company, but I especially loved him in Driving Miss Daisy and The Shawshank Redemption. He was also good in the Dark Knight. Actually, in every show I have seen him I have loved him. Once his name is there, so am I.
A great acting stretch for Mr. Freeman was in Nurse Betty. A great darkly comic role.
Mr. Freeman could read the phonebook and I would be riveted.
A very unknown great movie that all should see stars Morgan Freeman, Robert Redford, and Jennifer Lopez. It was a favorite Freeman-role of mine.It is called ‘An Unfinished Life’.
Carter in Bucket List. Ned in Unforgiven. Amistad. Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves.
