Thanks, Dave. Much appreciated.
Best Original Screenplay seems the most competitive. And will it come down to a two-horse race between Meryl and Carey? Looking like it so far.
Hmm…Meryl Streep is gaining some momentum after New York film critics announced their winners. I am excited for this award season.
In the Loop is an adapted screenplay.
Thanks, Clayton. I appreciate it.
I think it’s going to be a wide field of eventual Oscar winners, not one film winning everything.
For example, it’s highly possible that Best Picture and Director will split (i.e. Up in the Air winning picture and Bigelow winning director, or vice versa), that all four acting awards will be from different movies and that neither picture or director winners will take home screenplay awards. It’s kind of nice to see some unpredictable action.
I’m predicting Up in the Air is going to lose steam and only win for best Adapted Screenplay. I think Avatar could gain steam in the Best Picture race, Bigelow will maintain Best Director, and Jeff Bridges will end up gaining momentum when Crazy Heart hits wide release and beat out Clooney in the end.
@Michael – you, sir, are 100% correct.
Thanks for putting this together Dave!
Does anyone know which group awarded Best Actor to Colin Firth?
Austin, Detroit, San Diego, San Francisco.
Please cite your sources, I have not seen the Spike Jonze win and am very curious about that. What are all the critics groups used for this tally
So Hurt Locker has all these Best Picture and Director wins, but not a single screenplay acknowledgment? Seems odd…
not that odd…Titanic was in the same boat (pardon the pun) it eventually won 11 oscars but no recognition for the screenplay.
Rooting for Jeff Bridges all the way to the OSCARS!!!!
this is for Chris…Colin Firth was awarded at the last Venice Festival in september……
I also hope Christoph Waltz wins the Oscar, his Colonel LAnda was this year’s best of the best.
Princess and the Frog > Up
Oscar predic.
best actor- jeff bridges or george clooney
best actress- carey mulligan or meryl streep
best supp actor- chris waltz
best supp actress- mo’nique
best pic- hurt locker or up in the air
You cant have three of ur predictions as TWO POSSIBILITIES – Choose ONE OR THE OTHER. LOL
What critic awards gave their best actress award to Abbie Cornish?
You should also note that the San Diego Film Critics Society selected INGLOURIOUS BASTERDS as the best film of the year. That movie is likely to receive multiple Oscar nominations, including Best Picture, and it probably will win for Supporting Actor (Waltz) and Original Screenplay.
Go Monique! Go Meryl! Go 500 Days! Go Unpredictable and Exciting Movie Award Season!
I have a feeling Clooney will get the Oscar. But between Streep and Carey Mulligan I have no idea. I’m kind of excited for this awards season. I hope there’s not a total sweep once the major shows start.
