Looks like Meryl’s picking up a lot of steam. Unless Carey Mulligan upsets, it looks like this could be Meryl’s year at the Oscars; great performance, but it’s strange, considering how formidable she was in Doubt.

I hope Up in the Air’s ensemble snub doesn’t dampen it’s best picture chances!

i think you are wrong about daniel day lewis not getting a nom. the academy loves him so much.. betcha he will be one of the ones nominated for the oscar.

I love that Inglorious Basterds is getting all this recognition. I think it is well on its way to getting into the Best Picture race. I definintly think Melanie Laurant should have been nominated instead of Kruger, and just the fact that the studio is lobbying for a Best Actress nomination is killing her chances, which is a shame since I think she was one of the best in the movie. I’m still in awe that Nine is getting so recognized even though the reviews have been pretty lukewarm

And while we’re on it, here are my predictions for what films will make the 10 slot Best Picture race.

    Locks:
    Precious
    Up in the Air
    The Hurt Locker

    Sure things:
    Ingloruous Basterds
    Avatar
    Invictus

    Possibles:
    Nine
    Up
    An Education
    Where the Wild Things Are
    Star Trek

    VERY Wishfull thinking
    Harry Potter 6
    Drag Me to Hell
    Coraline

What about clive owen in “The Boys Are Back?” And I’m really hoping “The Messengers” gains some more momentum during this season; Ben Foster was incredible and is extremely underappreciated as an actor. With this performance, I think he paid his due.

How does Viggo M. miss a nomination????? Wow…..

Jeff Bridges has to win the Oscar. Now this guy knows how to embody a charactre seamlessly. I’ve never seen an entire movie audience stay in their seats and sit in rapt silence during the closing credits.

By contrast, Clooney’s performance in Up in The Air was nothing we haven’t seen a zillion times before. He’s actually a very remote actor who thinks he can get by on his looks. He doesn’t work nearly as hard at his craft as Bridges.

Go see”Crazy Heart” if you’re lucky enough to live in a city where it’s playing.
