America may not have embraced her, but her peers obviously have, since they just nominated her for her 3rd Oscar.
I have been watching all Pedro Almodovars’ films and I have to say that one of the first movies done by Pé like “jamon, jamon” she hardly knew was she was doing. Was improving in “todo es mentira” but still had a long way to go. I do not understand why she keeps trying to appear in usa films when the roles given to her are crap, and she does not speak proper english. She started her career as she went out with a famous singer in Spain Nacho Cano and relationships have helped her out. If she has made it, good for her, but, we have better actresses in Spain like Candela Peña who never had half of attention compared to Pé. I think the best role where she was good was in “La niñas de tus ojos”, she has been studying dancing for several years and she is a dancer in that film. I think she has acted well while working with Pedro Almodóvar because he is very exigent director and keeps repeating all the time all the scenes till they are perfect. What I dont understand is Woody Allen did not intend to include spanish actors in his movie “Vicky, Cristina”…. but the film was partially funded with public money: Barcelona’s city hall provided one million euros with the condition of including spanish speaker actors, so was her and Bardem included, if so, how come she got the oscar? About what expat said, yes she is very arrogant back home and is in the human condition where you see what the person is really worth, humility is the foundation of all the other virtues hence, in the soul in which this virtue does not exist there cannot be any other virtue except in mere appearance.
