I;d love to see “This Is It” nominated for Best Picture – a long shot for sure – but I thought it was one of the most inspiring and original films I saw this year.
wow- inspiring cause he’s dead? original because its a behind the scenes concert film which is a genre that has NEVER been done before???? you MUST be a sandra bullock fan
i am an actor – it’s a very good look into the give and take and the “working-it-out” that happens in rehearsal. the inspiring part was seeing michael and his team of extremely creative show business professionals-some of the best in the world at what they do- working to create a show the world had never seen before. And yes, I do enjoy Sandra’s work occasionally.
What about the absolutely brilliant performance of the Australian actress Abbie Cornish in Bright Star? If you’ve seen Somersault and Candy, you know this girl has chops. Having watched Bright Star again last night on a screener, it’s a crime not to keep the flame for her Oscar chances alive. It’s funny to see all the early champions fall off the radar when more “popular” choices come along like Sandra Bullock in Blind Side. Is that truly and Oscar worthy performance?? What happened to rewarding the BEST PERFORMANCES OF THE YEAR not MOST POPULAR?
Wake up people! “The Blind Side” is sweeping the Box Office….because of word of mouth…everyone that sees it loves it and is telling everyone else. It would be Best Picture if it were a liberal family….but because it portrays family values Hollywood will snub it…but its results at the Box Office speak for themselves. “The Blind Side”…best movie of the Year…and Decade!
umm…okay.
The only one on this list I remotely like is Matt Damon for The Informant! Mariah Carey for Precious could be a possibility if Precious was leading a stronger charge and could manage to muster two Support Actress nods (but Up in the Air looks more likely to steal that glory and there’s no way Mo’Nique isn’t getting nominated nor is there a way she wouldn’t deserve said nomination). But Matt Damon was excellent in The Informant! Maya Rudolph was more irritating than anything else in Away We Go and although I haven’t seen Brothers or It’s Complicated, I can say that at least the trailer of Brothers is seriously convoluted and It’s Complicated looks beyond boring and makes me annoyed every time it’s mentioned amongst the awards circuit. I hope it gets shut out at the Oscars; it’ll be bad enough if Nine makes it in for Best Picture.
My ideal nominees that won’t make it might be more like:
District 9 for Best Picture
Sharlto Copley for Best Actor
Michael Sheen for Best Actor
Abbie Cornish for Best Actress
Bright Star for Best Picture
Jane Campion for Best Director
(but Bright Star will hopefully at least get nods for its beautiful cinematography and costume design)
9 for Visual Effects
(although the movie itself is a bit flat, it is the most visually brilliant animated film I’ve seen all year)
Star Trek for Best Score
Stanley Tucci for Julie & Julia
(I admit though that I haven’t seen The Lovely Bones yet and he might deservingly get a nod for that at least)
…and probably a whole bunch others that I simply cannot think of at the moment.
I don’t much care for the oscars most years, but I really hope that tobey maguire gets an oscar nod. I also wouldnt disagree if brothers got a best picture nod and natalie portman got a best supporting actress nod (although i know that the last two are unlikely)
Wonderful work! This is the type of information that should be shared around the web. Shame on Google for no longer positioning this put up upper! Come on over and consult with my website . Thank you =)
