Holmes was a horrible excuse for a film. Downey may be good, but the rest was a bore. The film is slow for the most part and it disregards the real Holmes totally. I say go see AVATAR or something else instead of this disappointing film. And yes, I’d even compare it to Wild Wild West.
Then never watch the Basil Rathbone movies, where his Holmes battled Nazis.
@ Carl. I hope you have read the books before you made that statement. Holmes was a drug addict as well as having martial arts skills. But the beauty of the human brain is that we can all read the same book and come up with a different idea as to who Holmes really is. Which is why there is so much discussion. I love the original but thought that this film offered another interpretation suitable for todays needs. I care not what others think of this film, all I know is that I went to see it and had a good time.
Sherlock seems like it’s an awesome movie…
And stop bashing it. Brett IS Holmes, but this is a different approach to Holmes. They just took the character and made him kinda modern, and more buffed, but would you also be so rude to Nigel Bruce’s idiotic Watson? Or Michael Caine’s imbecil Holmes, or who knows who else? This is NOT A ‘REAL’ HOLMES. Please, understand that, it’s a different approach to the character… For me, the only TRUE Holmes is Jeremy Brett. Granada was the only one who took the original stories, and tried to adapt them as much as they could.
But this is not it.
Some of the trailers look crazy, but I will be going to see it just because of RDJ. LOVE HIM!
Ease up! I’ve loved Holmes since Basil Rathbone. I agree that Jeremy Brett was fantastic, and probably the best, I accept a new way to look at Holmes and a fresh start. I saw SH yesterday and was entertained, that is all I wish from a movie.
Avatar #1 for the weekend again with 75 million. Thats only a $2,000,000 drop from last – 2%. At this rate its going to eclipse New Moon by the end of next weekend.
God, I hope Ambient “It’s not going to beat New Moon” Lite shows up to accept defeat.
LOL, I’m not a Twilight fan, but New Moon has already made 280 million domestically. Its gross will end up in the range of the HP winter releases (i.e., Chamber of Secrets, Goblet of Fire, Order of the Phoenix), even though it did not have an IMAX release.
It’s impressive that this little series came out of nowhere and is now domestically in the same range as the HP film series.
I’m curious to see how Eclipse does considering that it will have a summer IMAX release.
Regardless of whether or not Avatar “eclipses” New Moon, there’s no question that Twilight has become quite a phenomenon.
Even as one who dislikes the series, I can recognize that.
and eclipse next summer would kick avatar ass newmoon made 140million without been in imax imagine how much it will make when it goes into cinema im afan but seriously am scared to think maybe 180-200 freaked out yet hahahaha
AVATAR is #1 again with 75 million and SHERLOCK is #2 with 65 million.
MUSIC VIDEO OF THE YEAR:
My lord Rachel….do you not seriously have a life for real? Its gotta take some work to copy and paste Lady GaGa music video on here. She doesnt pay you to do that ok? And she dont even know you or like you. You are the biggest loser on EW site and elsewhere. Get a life please. dang its like this crap week. You are the weakest link now go away dang!
I love Sherlock Holmes. It is a re-positioning of Holmes, as Sir Conan-Doyle wrote him, and not as Basil Rathbone played it 50 years ago. So, get over it! Why would anyone want to see a reincarnation of Basil? If you like Basil so much, go rent his old Sherlock movies. I WISH they put out the DVD in a month or so. Can’t wait for the sequel. Is BRAD PITT gonna be Prof Moriarty?
I personally loved Sherlock Holmes. It was full of suspense and excitement. Avatar looks to me like a sort of different Disney’s Pochahantus. Or however you spell it. Whether it is good or bad is a matter of opinion. So it this shouldn’t be relevent. If you like Sherlock Holmes then you like Sherlock Holmes. If you like Avatar you like Avatar. So can we stop this nonsense???
