To me I think the best film of 2009 is “Julie and Julia”. Now I know it will not be nominated for any major awards or even bring a nomination for Meryl Streep but I thought it was enjoyable and thought provoking. It inspired me to start to cook. I did take cooking classes last year and had fun. It was nice to see a fun, simple and enjoyable movie with great performances and a good storyline.

What are you talking about? Meryl Streep is as close to a lock on a nomination as she can be. Have you not been keeping track?

  • Chris

Dave, I’m wondering your thoughts on Joseph Gordon-Levitt winning a Golden Globe. As I look at that category, he trails behind others in name recognition, but I think he deserves the award.

  • Bob Loblaw

Have not seen all the movies considered “contenders.” But I’ve seen a fair amount.

The best of ‘em have been Hurt Locker, Invictus, Up, Precious, and District 9. I was also thoroughly entertained by Star Trek and The Hangover.

Up in the Air did not impress as much.

People really need to wake up. Last year, The Dark Knight was extremely popular but it wasn’t enough to get it a Best Picture nomination…so popularity is no guarantee. And if TDK can’t get a nomination, no way in HELL Avatar deserves one.

The picture of the year: “The Hurt Locker” or “In the Loop”. Actor of the year: Jeremy Renner of “THL” or Tobey Macguire of “Brothers”. Actress: Carey Mulligan of “An Education”. Director: Kathryn Bigelow of “The Hurt Locker”.

I haven’t seen all the possible nominees, but “Up in the Air” was better than “Avatar” and “Invictus”, but I did like all three of them.

  • Colin

Why is “Up” ineligible for all those awards? Just because it’s animated? I think it’s about time that an animated film score a nomination for something like Best Director.

Just saw precious, really good, Monique was absolutely stunning! No one deserves to win more than her. Finally in the loop is mentioned…great movie

The Hurt Locker is the most overrated film of the year. I’m a 3 time Iraq veteran and I know guys who do what the soldiers in that movie do. I would choose Avatar or anything else over it. The movie is disrepectful to the soldiers with it’s phony heroism completely ignoring the real heroism these guys display every day. And Star Trek was stupid too.

no one seems to even consider Moon which was a terrific movie and Sam Rockwell’s brilliant performance which is begging for a nomination. and in my opinion way better than Avatar.

Je vis à Espanola, us .

    Bye

    Arthru
