This was one of the few movies that I was really doubtful about for Downey, so I’m kinda relieved he’s given it a pass. I DO agree with Nathan Fillion in the role though – that would utterly kick ass, and I have no reservations about his ability to pull it off.
Also, who mentioned Hugh Laurie for Moriarty? That would be an inspired choice, on many levels – “House” himself is based off Holmes, as you may know.
I think they should see about a different director for Holmes 2, though – they’ve had multiple directors for Batman and it’s worked out okay.
He made the right choice, but who to replace him?? I like the idea of Fillion. He was kinda already a space cowboy in Firefly.
Although Nathan Fillion would be an obvious choice to replace RDJ in the film i dont think it would be very well recepted.
Everyone is going off of what they know of Firefly, which is easily one of the best shows ever to grace the Boob Tube.(and a personal fav of mine) However, the style of the film is not the same as Firefly. In Firefly there are no aliens. And it isnt set in the Wild West. The people on the planets are forced to live like that becuase of their lack of resorces.
And not knowing the direction of the film i cant say wether it will be a Comedy/a serious action movie, or a drama. Based on Favreau’s track record of being an Action/comedy guy, i would tend to lean that way. With that said, Nathan Fillions character in Firefly was at times funny, but more on the serious side. And I dont think would translate very well.
The problem is that you have to find a good Period Actor. Someone who you could believe were alive in the Wild West, and I cant see Fillion being that person.
And i do agree, the concept of that movie sounds rediculous, it doesnt sound very entertaining at all, but of course we have to wait and see. If Nathan Fillion is the lead in the movie, the first week will be their biggest, and it will be filled with Firefly fans. The rest… Who knows…
Personally, I dont think Nathan Fillion would be the right choice. ALthough if he were in it, id probably rent it..
I dare them to prove me wrong.
Vince Vaughn? WTF?
Now THERE’S a way to kill a franchise before it ever starts!
