It’s official. (500) Days of Summer director Marc Webb just landed the Spider-Man gig. He’s been a favorite of Sony for some time and most recently auditioned for the Moneyball gig that ultimately went to Bennett Miller. It will be interesting to see what Webb, who comes from the world of music videos, does with the revamped Spider-Man. And more importantly, who will he and Sony cast as the new Peter Parker?
Talk about it on PopWatch:
Spider-Man reboot: The challenge for Marc Webb

Hmmm Maybe Joseph Gordon- Levitt might be the new Superman??? I think he would be great! Wy better than Zach Ephron!
That would be interesting but this is about Spiderman
Oh, Tiba. Your crazy random spam posts about your search for freaky Gothic man is plain tiresome. Yet I enjoy the pain and suffering of annoying spamlets shoved between the posts of bloggers. So I encourage you to keep posting your inane ramblings about your need for investors in your struggling Nigerian bank, your belief that the right Vampire man would pay good ca$h money to date you and your never-ending spew of oddly phrased come-ons to perfect strangers. You rock, Tiba.
A buddy of mine who’s an assistant to Webb’s assistant (“Webb”, that’s funny) has said he’s looking to re-boot Haley Joel Osment’s career with this re-boot of Spider-Man. Now THAT sounds awesome!
I will keel over and die if HJO is cast as Peter Parker. He would be horrible.
yahoo mentioned anton yelchin. He is a good enough actor.
I loved 500 Days of Summer, but it remains to be seen if he can make a big comic book movie.

As amazing as this video is, it has nothing to do with this article. BTW, Marc Webb directed “Helena.” No matter what you think of that band, the vid is still awesome!
Helena by My Chemical Romance?? That video is a-freakin-mazing. I’m going to go watch it
A pretty good music video director & I loved (500) Days Of Summer, but I’m not going to see the Spiderman reboot. But good for him. Hopefully he’ll also do some more decent music videos from time to time (in between directing movies).
Ooh maybe he’ll pick Joseph Gorden Levitt to be Spiderman. That would be amazing!
i think jim sturgess from 21 will be perfect for the new spider man
i agree with domingo, a good choice…for the project i hope they will not do a reboot, it sounds stupid.
This is how a studio destroy a beloved franchise. Good work sony keep it up. Looking forward to sony destroying other franchises owned by sony.
the franchise was destroyed with the last movie when Peter became Emo…It needs to try again just like with Hulk once you realize that a movie sucked so bad that it lost fans you try again
The spiderman franchise is nothing like the Hulk. Hulk started out with a bad movie. The first two spiderman movies were awesome and the third wasn’t even THAT bad and it still made millions of dollars. If you make ONE bad movie in a successful franchise, you don’t start over. You make a 4th one and improve. The only positive that comes out of this is that they can make some changes to the storyline. I wasn’t a big fan of them killing off Peter’s friend and Mary Jane aka Kirsten Dunst always annoyed me. But Tobey was and will always be spiderman.
His notes with humor in timing in give me some hope for a certain kind of cynical Peter Parker humor I felt missing from Raimi’s “naieve nerd Peter” Spider-Man. Pete was too busy with his sense of Responsibility to maybe be completely up on Pup-Culture…but he wasn’t clueless or “Clark Kent-ish” when it came to socializing and the ladies–his neuroses just messed things up for him. That combined with his sense of flash from his music videos give me hope this could be at least an interesting adaptation.
If he can bring me to see this reboot then he is one of the greatest directors out there. Cause right now, I have no intention of seeing this.
Honestly don’t know what to think of this. Could be great, but who knows? I’m staying open-minded, but until I see the first trailer, I’ll judge.
They’re ruining spiderman…Should’ve went with a 4th movie with the same cast, it was a hit. They didn’t even wrap up the earlier trilogy, could’ve had a starwars-like thing going if they wanted to show more of his highschool years with an earlier movie, or made the movie like they planned to with better villans, like SHOCKER, or they could’ve taken it to a new level by adding KINGPIN and had him in charge of all the villains. When in doubt, go back to the comics.
Not to sound like a fanboy or anything, but do you even read the comic book? Because if you do, then you’ll know that shocker is not one of those ‘better’ villains. he’s actually one of spider man’s most looserish villains in his rogues gallery. All of the villains have been good picks so far(except maybe sandman).
Sandman would have been better if he were given the whole movie to develop as a character instead of being shoehorned behind fan-favorite Venom, who network suits wanted Raimi to stick in, despite the fact that the whole “alien symbiote” thing didn’t mesh with the rest of the films’ more science-y origins.
The Kingpin is a Daredevil villain, not Spider-Man and 20th Century Fox had/has the Daredevil license, not Sony.
I wish I was Marc Webb
awesome movie………
OK call me a hater, but I hope this flops……
Considering how many little boys and girls love spiderman, I don’t think it will. Even if all the comic book fans and fans of the previous series don’t go see the movie, all the casual fans probably will still go see it.
Me too, this sucks…
Reboots will be the downfall of Hollywood. All the original stories will come from indies.
