Taylor Lautner: the new 'Stretch Armstrong'

Yes, it’s true. Taylor Lautner is now no longer just a hulking werewolf. He will soon embody Hasbro’s popular ’80s toy in Universal’s adaptation of Stretch Armstrong. The movie, to be produced by Brian Grazer, will be released in 2012 in 3-D. The studio has yet to hire a director for the movie, but Steve Oedekerk (Bruce Almighty) has written the script. Universal made the announcement late Friday night along with the news that they will push back their other big Hasbro property Battleship, from director Peter Berg, from its original July 2011 release to Memorial Day weekend 2012 to give the filmmaker more time to finish the large-scale project.

Um…what’s the point of posting a Taylor Lautner story if you’re not going to put a picture with his shirt off along with it??

    • Autumn

      AGREED!!!

  • Nerwen Aldarion

A Stretch Armstrong movie????? You have GOT to be kidding me!!!!!

    • The Lady

I thought the same thing. Either this could be really good or… not

    • goddy!

I can’t wait! I’m also looking forward to Hungry Hungry Hippos 3D and Sock Monkey: The Musical.

      • Linda

        @goddy! hungry hungry hippos, LOL
His movied might be good, for like 5 yr olds

      • DanKor

What about the “Rock’em Sock’em Robots” movie? Maybe they should cast Jay Leno – he’s used to taking hits lately! Maybe Jay Leno vs. Conan O’Brien. THAT I would watch! lol

      • Kieran

“Sock Monkey: The Musical!” I love it!

      • harry

        ha ha ha yeah!!!

      • Lillie

Do not care about the Stretch Armstrong movie, I was just expecting a picture of Taylor on here too.. So disappointing

    • Musica1

Hey, we said the same thing when they announced that they were going to make a movie based on the Disneyland ride “Pirates of the Caribbean.” That movie turned out to be great because of the amazing writing, directing and acting. This probably won’t turn out to be good, but just because a concept is dumb sounding doesn’t mean the end product HAS to be bad.

      • Jen

Um, Taylor Lautner IS NOT Johnny Depp. Taylor Lautner isn’t even Orlando Bloom.

      • John

PIRATES was about pirates for cryin’ out loud! How could that not be good? But a movie based on a stretchy toy starring a this little teenager? Linda was right — “maybe for five year olds”

      • Celia

I’m going to have to agree with the majority. This movie has got stinker written all over it.
Who ever came up with this “clever” idea, must have been smoking or snorting something at the time.

      • Lillie

Not to mention the movie is written by the guy who created Bruce Almight, another bad movie, I really do not see how this movie could turn out good.

    • Kieran

Every kid I knew who had a Stretch Armstrong would stretch the legs as far as possible and then cut them off to watch the goo shoot out. That would look great in 3D, don’t you think?

  • Jenny

This could, quite possibly, be the dumbest “toy-turned-movie” thing they’ve done so far. And I’m including Transformers and G.I. Joe in that opinion.
Now, Berg’s Battleship movie COULD be cool…

  • anna

I wonder how many Razzies this movie will win?

    • John

      How many they got?

  • Kate

    Oh God.
Maybe when one or two movies Lautner does on his own tank, Hollywood will take the hint and stop trying to make him the next big thing.
I know Twilight fans can be rabid, but I REALLY don’t see that many of them turning out for a freakin’ Stretch Armstrong movie.

    • Musica1

Taylor Lautner has amazing martial arts skills and is very disciplined physically. I think he’s a perfect choice for the next generation’s action star.

      • John

Amazing martial arts skills? If you’re referring to that ridiculous karate dancing gymnastics he did on SNL, then girl, you don’t know much about martial arts.

      • Celia

        Ummm…okay…
I’m going to bet my money on Sam Worthington become the next big action star. You can stick with the shirtless kid.

  • Cindy

Is the best he is being offered? I feel bad for him. Kind of.

  • Cindy

    *this*

  • Tina

lame. Who in their right mind comes up with these ideas… you’d think Taylor would find better movies to star in

  • Bitter Child of the 80s

Why does Hollywood continue to ruin my childhood memories? “Stretch Armstrong”? Really? Why not kill me with a “Small Wonder” movie starring Ali Lohan or “Great Space Coaster” re-boot? No, I got it! “Charles in Charge” starring Zach Efron. Yeah, that’s it! Disney look into that!

    • Neon and Parachute Pants

To: “Bitter Child of the 80′s”

I could NOT have said it better myself! Thank you so much for posting your comment! If only more people felt as we do…If only more people could see how Hollywood/Disney is not only RUINING our cherished memories, but all movie genres as a whole. Coulda been worse though, they coulda really went off the deep end and remade “Teen Wolf” with Taylor Lautner…now THAT woulda been in phenominally B-A-D taste!

      • Linda

@Neon and Parachute Pants I could have sworn I read something about a Teen Wolf t.v. show. I don’t remember where I read it. I’m too tired to google it.

      • TinkerKell

Disney is not perfect, but come on Toy Story (1 & 2) were top notch. There was a lot of toys in that and it didn’t ruin a single memory for me :) This movie could be the comedy hit of the year–if they go that way…Brian Grazer is pretty smart and very successful – ya never know! And as to the other comment posted re: Lautners martial arts skills, yeah, he really does have the skills (even if it wasn’t on display on SNL). Twilight haters, give the kid a chance-I think he just might have more chops than Edward and Bella combined! (And he’s hot!)

    • Voltron: Defender of the Universe

      Well said!

Because they have no originality or imagination left. Everything is just a copy-paste of someone else’s work. And it sold ones, so…

      • Linda

@Voltron: Defender of the Universe I agree with that. My daughter listens to that Disney teen music crap, and almost every song I hear I tell her that it came out 20 yrs. ago. Most of them just re-do songs and the kids hate the originals. =(

      • CMU

@Linda. Introduce her to good music! Don’t let her listen to it. Thank goodness I was introduced to jazz, funk, classical, classic rock, etc. when I was younger. Music is part of what forms your identity. Don’t let what forms her be awful covers of old songs, packaged and produced beyond all reason.

      • Linda L

@CMU. I was also lucky to be introduced to different genre of music when I was young. My daughters 3 and 6 listen to jazz, classic rock, classical, some country, alternative rock, some pop, etc. Nina Simone is one of my 6 yr old favorite singers.

    • ladybuggs717

OMFG, I would love The Great Space Coaster Movie!!!!

      • Lillie

It all depends on who they cast as Gary Gnew actually he was my favorite

  • ebola

ugh, i foresee tons of ‘stretching of limbs into the audience’ with the 3D format…

  • jennifer

Now that that’s out of the way, we can move onto the important casting decision: Who is going to play Fetch Armstrong?

    • gigi

I’m thinking a digital dog…kinda like they did with Scooby Doo, but stretchy.

  • castiella

The whole 3D thing needs to go away, like, yesterday. As does H-wood’s propensity to make movies based on Mattel products (or whatever). Seriously, what’s next? Rubber Bouncy Ball: The Movie and Rubber Bouncy Ball 2: The Bounce is Back?

    • rush

hhahahahahah that made me laugh out loud!!!

    • lauren

      Slinky: The Movie
It’s Fun For A Girl Or A Boy!

      • dacky

ETCH A SKETCH & ETCH A SKETCH 2:EVEN MORE SKETCHIER!!!

  • Brooke

Umm. Is anyone else over 3D? Because…it’s already so done.

    • Linda

@Brooke Guess you’re not going to be buying one of those new 3-D t.v.’s that will be coming out.

      • Cheeko

Who wants a TV that you have to wear special glasses to watch? I know I don’t.

    • Dave

I’m with you Brooke. I’m definitely over 3D. I really hope this fad goes away soon.

    • Celia

I have a feeling it’s going to keep coming since 3D is a good way to cut down on movie pirating. I know the next two Harry Potter films are going to be in 3D, Alice in Wonderland will be in 3D and pretty much every other movie involving special effects that’s currently in production.

  • rocknmovies

Oh, the most boring young actor in Hollywood is getting another boring action hero part.

    • John

      Funny, yet so sadly true.

  • rush

he’s already gonna be playing max steel, why cant this kid book anything other than movies based on toys. d like to see him in something original. not just based on something(on just toys) i get that he now has the build of these actionfigures, but come on, let him shine for something other then his body, he’s just17(almost 18) i personally cant wait to see him in valentines day, no matter what the other werewolves say :P
